Валерий Савин    RD0B

В 1991 году поступил на курсы полярных работников в Свердловскую гидрометеошколу. В процессе учёбы получил личный позывной UA9CDE. При этом, часто работал позывным UW9CYJ, с коллективной радиостанции, которая принадлежала этой школе. В июне 1992 по распределению прибыл на остров Диксон с женой в Диксонское территориальное управлении по гидрометеорологии и мониторингу окружающей среды (УГМС). В первый же день начал свою работу c острова Диксон IOTA AS-005 позывным UA9CDE/UA0B и чуть позже, с Диксонской коллективной радиостанции 4K4BWL. С сентября 1992 года работал на п/ст. острова Голомянный IOTA AS-042 и п/ст. острова Визе IOTA AS-55. В ноябре 1995 года вернулся на Диксон с позывным RZ9DX/0, где работал в Диксонском УГМС на передающей станции (Новый Диксон) техником по радиосвязи. В конце 1999 года перевелся в аэропорт Диксон, в наземную службу (ЭРТОС) техником по радионавигации, радиолокации и связи, где по сей день и работает позывным RD0B.

Александрова Наталья Владимировна родилась 26 ноября 1950 года в г. Москве.

Москва (подготовка детей к соревнованиям, участие в подготовке и судейству молодежных соревнований, Первенств и Чемпионатов Москвы по различным видам радиоспорта).
Александрова Н.В. является участником команды дней активности в честь 120-летия Э.Т. Кренкеля (позывной R120A). Награждена дипломом RAEM-120 и дипломом Московского радиоклуба «Эрнст Кренкель-120».

Ирина Грачева    RL3AX

Грачёва Ирина Алексеевна родилась 18 сентября 1950 года в г. Москве.
Личный позывной RL3AX.
С 1964-1968 – работа на коллективной радиостанции UA3KAS Московского дворца пионеров и школьников (наставник - заслуженный тренер СССР Баранов Александр Александрович, UA3BA). Освоила работу в эфире, телеграф и спортивную радиопеленгацию.
В 1966 году в составе юношеской сборной Дворца пионеров от города Москвы выступала в Артеке на Всесоюзных играх по радиоспорту. Заняла первое место по радиопеленгации («Охоте на лис»).
В 1967 году получила свой первый позывной UV3DE, работала телеграфом на портативной радиостанции.
С 1967 года по 1974 год после окончания школы работала преподавателем Московского городского Дворца пионеров и школьников, преподавала азбуку Морзе в секторе радиоспорта, перенимала опыт у заслуженного тренера СССР Александра Александровича Баранова, UA3BA.
За этот период ее воспитанники участвовали под позывным RK3AWB в многочисленных соревнованиях (от городских до международных) по радиосвязи на КВ и УКВ, занимали призовые места, выполнили условия и получили большое количество радиолюбительских дипломов. Были призеры Всероссийских соревнований по спортивной радиопеленгации, подготовлено большое количество спортсменов-разрядников.
Будучи студенткой МАИ совмещала учебу с занятиями радиоспорта. Член сборной команды г. Москвы по «Охоте на лис». Неоднократно занимала призовые места в Московских и Всесоюзных соревнованиях, принимала участие в IV Спартакиаде СССР.
В 1970 году выполнила норматив мастера спорта по спортивной радиопеленгации, чемпион Москвы по спортивной радиопеленгации.
В 1974 году ее воспитанники стали призерами Всесоюзных соревнований по «Охоте на лис».
В 1996 году вернулась к преподавательской деятельности и возглавила сектор радиоспорта в Московском городском Дворце пионеров.
«Принимала участие в «Олимпийском марафоне» радиолюбителей мира в 2013-2014 гг. позывным R1980М.
Заняла 3 место в составе команды в Первенстве России по радиосвязи на КВ в 2017 г.
Награждена Дипломом 1 степени за первое место в Первенстве РФ по радиосвязи на КВ в 2018 г. в составе команды двух операторов.
Имеет Благодарность Федеральной службы по надзору в сфере связи, информационных технологий и массовых коммуникаций (Роскомнадзор) за вклад в деятельность национальной радиолюбительской организации и развитие любительской службы радиосвязи в Российской Федерации и радиоспорта.
Ветеран труда.
Награждена Юбилейной медалью за существенный вклад в развитие физической культуры и спорта награждена в связи со 100-летием образования государственного органа управления спортом (Приказ Минспорта России).
Экспедиции:
С 1998 по 2002 десант московских ребятишек под руководством Грачевой И.А. высаживались на берегу Белого озера (ст. Белоозерская Рязанской области), чтобы принять участие в очных соревнованиях на призы журнала «Радио».
В г. Тучково Московской области в части МЧС проводились совместные соревнования воспитанников Грачевой И.А. по спортивной радиопеленгации совместно с военнослужащими.
Неоднократно с командой воспитанников выезжала на всесоюзные и региональные молодежные очные соревнования по радиосвязи на коротких волнах.
В настоящее время Грачева Ирина Алексеевна – педагог дополнительного образования НТЦ «Исток», управляющий оператор коллективной радиостанции R5AX. Благодаря её энергии НТЦ «Исток» стал признанным центром молодёжного радиоспорта в Москве. Умение объединять людей, находить решение в самой запутанной ситуации даёт свои результаты. Ирина Алексеевна – отличный организатор. С ней рядом несколько десятков её выпускников, «болеющих» за радиолюбительство и радиоспорт и готовых по первому призыву помочь организовать любые соревнования. Именно поэтому все крупные события в московском молодёжном радиоспорте происходят с её непосредственным участием. Стали традицией летние и зимние старты «охотников на лис» в Тропарёвском лесопарке. Спортивные игры «Военный радист» собирают более сотни ребят из разных округов столицы и из Подмосковья.
Команды операторов радиостанции R5AX многократно участвовали в молодежных соревнованиях по радиосвязи на коротких волнах телефоном и телеграфом, в таких как «Кубок Попова», «Дружба», «Снежинка» и занимали призовые места. Ряд воспитанников Грачевой И.А. выполнили нормативы и получили разряды КМС и МС по радиоспорту.
Грачева И.А. регулярно участвует лично позывным RL3AX и на коллективной радиостанции R5AX в командах мемориальных радиостанций:

Юрий Федотов    RA3AKM

Федотов Юрий Иванович родился 12 марта 1954 г. в г. Москве.
Личный позывной RA3AKM.
1971 г. – член Московского радиоклуба ДОССАФ.
1971 г. – получил наблюдательский позывной UA3-170-636.
1972 г. – получил позывной RA3AKM (1-я категория), чемпион г. Москвы по дипломной программе «По волнам эфира», имеет несколько сотен радиолюбительских дипломов, в том числе «Каста радистов F-100» № 4, RDXC.
2010 г – управляющий оператор RK3CQ - коллективная радиостанция Московского радиоклуба.
Почётный член Общества Друзей радио (ОДР#833).
Основатель и Председатель Совета РОО «Московский радиоклуб», созданного в 2010 году. Количество членов МРК превышает 200 человек, в том числе радиолюбители нескольких регионов России и иностранные радиолюбители.
Внес большой вклад в содействие развитию и популяризацию радиолюбительства и радиоспорта, особенно в Московском регионе.
Активно работает с молодежью в РОО «Московский радиоклуб».
Создал и оснастил измерительными приборами лабораторию, в которой радиолюбители могут конструировать и настраивать технику радиосвязи.
Создал при Московском радиоклубе музей ретро аппаратуры, ряд экспонатов были переданы в экспозицию Музея радио и радиолюбительства имени Э.Т. Кренкеля.
Оснастил аппаратурой, антеннами и измерительными приборами коллективную радиостанцию RA5AW Центра молодежного инновационного творчества «КУБ», на которой проводятся занятия кружков «Юный радист» Детско-юношеского центра «Виктория», Дворца творчества детей и молодежи «Севастополец» и НТЦ «Исток» Департамента образования г. Москвы.
С 2010 по 2024 гг. постоянно организует мероприятия по радиоспорту, теоретические и научно-практические конференции, конкурсы, выставки творчества радиолюбителей-конструкторов, радиоэкспедиции, осуществляет содействие ДОСААФ в подготовке допризывной молодежи к службе в Вооруженных Силах РФ и др.
Федотов Ю.И. являлся помощником руководителя Московского регионального отделения СРР, занимался дипломными программами.
В 2014 году участвовал в мероприятии в честь 80-летия Челюскинской эпопеи.
Федотовым Ю.И. лично учреждено более 20 радиолюбительских дипломов, посвящённых историческим датам России и г. Москвы, в том числе диплом «Эрнст Кренкель-120», который был выдан десяткам российских и зарубежных коротковолновиков.

Виталий Леушин    RA3BU

Леушин Виталий Юрьевич родился 20 августа 1951 года в г. Москве. В 9 лет построил свой первый детекторный приемник. SWL с 1964 года (UA3-27-373, UA3-170-24). 1964-1974 гг. - оператор коллективных радиостанций: UA3KBF– коллективная радиостанция НИИ 17. Наставники - известный ветеран радиолюбительского движения Богомолов Евгений Викторович - UA3IJ, первый заместитель главного редактора журнала «Радио» Степанов Борис Григорьевич - UW3AX/RU3AX), UA3KAS - Московский дворец пионеров и школьников, наставник - заслуженный тренер СССР Баранов Александр Александрович - UA3BA, UK3ABM- Московский институт электронного машиностроения, заместитель начальника коллективной радиостанции. Личные позывные: UV3DO с 1968., I категория - с 1972, RA3BU - c 1996. Работал позывным DL/RA3BU из Дрездена - 2001г, а также с острова Узедом на Балтийском море - 2011 г. Неоднократно занимал призовые места в соревнованиях по радиосвязи на КВ и УКВ. В 1970 г получил 1 разряд по радиосвязи на КВ, 2 разряд по приему и передаче радиограмм на ключе. Профессиональная деятельность. После окончания школы в 1968 - 1969 гг. работал инструктором радиоклуба ДОСААФ «Супер». В 1974 г. закончил Московский институт электронного машиностроения по специальности «Конструирование и производство радиоаппаратуры». В 1974-2016 гг. работал в МНИИП - НПО «Вега» - АО «Концерн «Вега». Разработчик приемных и передающих устройств самолетных и космических РЛС, а также радиолокаторов для систем управления посадкой космических аппаратов. Участвовал в создании аппаратуры, принятой на вооружение, в том числе для самолета радиолокационной разведки по теме «Штык» и самолета дальней радиолокационного обнаружения А50 (российский аналог системы AWACS), руководил лабораторией входных СВЧ-устройств и научно -тематической лабораторией медицинской техники, главный конструктор более 10 ОКР. С 1991 г. – заместитель генерального директора ООО «НПИ ФИРМА «ГИПЕРИОН». Разработанные под моим руководством изделия медицинской техники внедрены в серийное производство и широко применяются в Службе крови РФ, в том числе в медицинских организациях Министерства обороны, поставляются в ДНР и ЛНР. 2017-2023 г.- доцент, старший научный сотрудник МГТУ им. Н.Э. Баумана. Кандидат технических наук (1989г.) Автор более 60 патентов на изобретения, полезные модели и промышленные образцы. Награжден 28 золотыми, серебряными и бронзовыми медалями международных салонов изобретений и инноваций в Брюсселе, Париже, Женеве, Лионе, Сеуле, Ганновере, Нюрнберге, Москве в 2001-2008гг. Кавалер орденов общества изобретателей Королевства Бельгия «За заслуги в области изобретательства» степеней «Шевалье», «Офицер» и «Командор». Участник международных научно-технических конференций в Германии, Испании, Португалии, Черногории, на Майорке, Кипре, Мадейре. Автор более 200 статей в научных журналах, а также 7 научных монографий. За разработку многочисленных радиотехнических систем награжден значком «Почетный радист» Министерства промышленности и торговли Российской Федерации. Ветеран труда. Опыт образовательной деятельности В 2018–2019 г. - доцент кафедры "Медико-технические информационные технологии" МГТУ им. Н. Э. Баумана. Читал лекции студентам магистратуры, бакалавриата и специалитета по дисциплине «Медико биологические приборы, аппараты и устройства на новых физических принципах с использованием современных информационных технологий». На коллективной радиостанции RA5AW организовал регулярные занятия кружка «Юный радист», где школьники и студенты осваивают технику любительской радиосвязи. Команды операторов RA5AW многократно участвовали в молодежных соревнованиях по радиосвязи на коротких волнах телефоном и телеграфом: «Кубок Попова»,«Дружба», «Снежинка» и занимали призовые места. Являюсь спонсором секции радиоспорта Детского центра «Исток». Ряд молодых радистов на позиции RA5AW выполнили нормативы и получили разряды КМС по радиоспорту. Регулярно участвую лично и на коллективной радиостанции RA5AW в командах мемориальных радиостанций (RP76M RP77M, RP78M, R1941OM). В 1964 г. участвовал в заседании, посвященном 40-летию журнала «Радио», на котором выступал Э.Т. Кренкель. В 1969 году установил радиосвязь с радиостанцией RAEM, имею QSL-карточку от Э.Т. Кренкеля, в 2014 году участвовал в мероприятии в честь 80-летия Челюскинской эпопеи, имею книгу Р.Ротхаммель с дарственной надписью Т.Э. Кренкеля. Является участником команды дней активности в честь 120-летия Э.Т. Кренкеля, провел позывным R120A более 1000 радиосвязей.

Александр Пацюк    UA3MHF

Закончил Ярославский мединститут в 1981 году, работал в больницах экстренной медицинской помощи г. Рыбинска в качестве врача анестезиолога-реаниматолога.

1987-1990: Испытательно-экспериментальные экспедиции на Таймыр, Северную Землю и район Северного Полюса на самодельных снегоходах на пневматиках низкого давления. Награжден грамотами ЦК ДОСААФ СССР.
1991: испытание опытных образцов снегохода «Рысь» Уфимского производства в экспедиции на Тазовском полуострове.
1992: на Чукотке совместно с известным кинодокументалистом и журналистом Владленом Крючкиным участвовал в экспедиции на собачьих упряжках и селекционном отборе лаек – «хаски». Пройден маршрут «Уэлен-мыс Шмидта-о. Врангеля».
1993-1994: в зимний и летний периоды на Гыданском полуострове Ямало-Ненецкого округа - организатор и руководитель международного научного проекта «Взгляд на Север», где совместно с ведущими учеными Брюссельского Университета профессорами-микробиологами Глансдорффом и Раймондом Хамерсом и под патронажем ассоциации путешественников России и Ю.А. Сенкевича участвовал в проведении научно-экологических работ.
2000-2001: жил в Таиланде, где работал и обучался подводному плаванию.
2002: работал в Крыму, в Балаклаве в дайв-центре «Аквамарин», проходил курс подводной медицины в Севстопольском военном училище.

К 90-летнему юбилею со дня рождения - в 2024 году

Благодаря глубоким знаниям, трудолюбию, умению работать с людьми занимал важные военные должности, добивался высоких показателей, вверенных ему боевых подразделений.
В 1973г. Василий Михайлович Бондаренко был приглашен в ЦК ДОСААФ СССР и назначен на должность начальника Центрального радиоклуба СССР им.Э.Т.Кренкеля.
Радиоклубу, Василий Михайлович, посвятил более 30 лет своей жизни. Благодаря его усилиям, традиции и популярность Центрального радиоклуба были не только сохранены, но и преумножены.
Были решены многие проблемы радиолюбителей, радиоспортсменов, а также их массовости, мастерства и популярности в том числе за рубежом.
В годы реформ в стране, радиолюбители оказались в трудном положении и Василию Михайловичу пришлось приложить огромные усилия для защиты интересов радиолюбителей и Центрального радиоклуба.
За свою трудовую деятельность Василий Михайлович Бондаренко награжден 2-мя орденами и 15 медалями.
Не каждому дано получить повышение по службе в 70-летнем возрасте, а Василий Михайлович получил – с августа 2004 г. он назначен на генеральскую должность Советника Председателя ЦС РОСТО.

Биография: личный позывной R7TU (ex: RK7G, RZ7G, RK6FZ). Родился в феврале 1971 года. Окончил 8 классов. В 1998 году окончил Ставропольский электротехникум связи. В 1995 году окончил Ставропольский государственный политехничпеский институт. Трудовой путь начал с 1995 года в сфере информационных технологий и массовых коммуникаций. Являюсь одним из первых, кто стоял у истоков образования и монтажа коммутационной подсистемы проводной связи в Ставропольском крае ("Ставтелеком им. В.И. Кузьминова"). Так же стоял у истоков образования Федеральной компании МТС в Ставропольском крае.
В радио с 1990 года. Участник экспедиций 4L6HMC, UU6U. Работал в эфире своими специальными позывными сигналами - UE6FFF, UE6IFF, UE6III. Активный активатор ООПТ заповедников по программе WFF. Являюсь активатором более 20 NEW ONE WFF референций, почетный радиолюбитель Калмыкии. Сработано и подтверждено 325 стран по списку DXCC. Активировано более 700 районов по программе RDA. В настоящее время участник команды R7AB. Отец двоих детей.

Гончаров Александр Николаевич родился 01.01.1953 г. в селе Мало-Михайловка Шебекинского района Белгородской области.
В 1970 году окончил среднюю школу № 4 г. Шебекино. Имеет высшее радиотехническое образование, в 1976 году - Харьковский институт радиоэлектроники, в 1990 году – Московский институт народного хозяйства им. Г.В. Плеханова.
В 1984-1986 г.г. участвовал в работе 30-й Советской Антарктической экспедиции. Полярник, более года зимовал на станции «Мирный» в Антарктиде, где занимался всеми видами связи.
С 1988 г. по 2013 г. его трудовая деятельность проходила в должности директора Шебекинского районного узла связи. Под его руководством проводилась большая работа по развитию сетей связи Шебекинского района на основе современных систем и технологий, переводу телефонной сети на цифровые системы, внедрению новых видов услуг связи, построены новые волоконно-оптические линии с установкой специального оборудования.
С 2013 года по настоящее время работает в должности инженера ООО «Комета», где занимается внедрением федеральной программы «Устранение цифрового неравенства» на территории города Шебекино и Шебекинского района.
За успехи в труде ему присвоено звание «Мастер связи».
Трижды избирался депутатом территориального Совета города Шебекино и Шебекинского района (с 1991 г. по 2004 г.).
С 2013 года по настоящее время является председателем Совета Регионального отделения «Союза радиолюбителей России».
В 2015 и 2016 годах стал чемпионом Мира по радиоспорту. Участник антарктической зимовки в составе САЭ - 4K1ZZ.

Игорь Савельев    RW0CF

Игорь Анатольевич Савельев родился 29.04.1948 г. Позывной – RW0CF. Образование - среднее техническое. Стаж работы в эфире - 48 лет. Звание - Мастер спорта СССР по радиоспорту. Имеет награды: медаль «Ветеран труда», медаль «60 лет вооруженных сил СССР», ведомственные грамоты, многочисленные награды по радиоспорту (медали, кубки, грамоты).
Савельев Игорь начал заниматься радиолюбительством с 1964 г., проживая в г. Бугуруслан Оренбургской области. Радиосвязью на КВ его увлек отец (U9SB ex: UA9SB). В 1968 году Игорь получил личный позывной UA9SMR и с этого года начал активно работать в эфире.
После переезда в Хабаровск, Игорь стал одним из основных операторов коллективной радиостанции RT0C, ex: RZ0CWW, UK0CBE - Хабаровского железнодорожного техникума. При этой радиостанции он создал коллектив молодых учащихся техникума, которых приобщил к радиоспорту и радиолюбительству. Многие его ученики получили высокие спортивные разряды и звания по спортивной радиосвязи на КВ.
Сам Игорь не один раз в составе команды становился Чемпионом СССР в заочных соревнованиях по спортивной радиосвязи на КВ, призером Международных и Российских соревнований. В 1975 году получил звание Мастер спорта СССР по радиоспорту.
С появлением новых цифровых видов радиосвязи, Игорь активно внедрял их в своей работе с молодежью. Так впервые из Хабаровска позывной RZ0CWW зазвучал в PSK, RTTY, SSTV. Всю необходимую аппаратуру конструировал самостоятельно и активно привлекал к конструированию учеников техникума. Когда встал вопрос о создании загородной технически оснащенной контест-станции для участия сборной команды Хабаровского края в Российских и Международных соревнованиях, Игорь Анатольевич разработал план технической оснащенности этой радиостанции. Лично принял участие в строительстве антенн и коммутационного оборудования. В настоящее время контест-станция RT0C оборудована полным комплектом антенн и приемо-передающей аппаратуры.

Евгений Ставицкий    UA0CA

Евгений Всеволодович Ставицкий родился 01.07.1940 г. в г. Владивосток. Позывной - UA0CA ex: UA0CBW, UA0CAQ. Мастер спорта СССР по радиоспорту.
Судья 1 категории по радиоспорту. Обладатель 5 Band DXCC.
В эфире с 1957 г. С 1981 г. неоднократно становился Чемпионом СССР по спортивной радиосвязи в составе команды в заочных и очных чемпионатах, призер многих Международных соревнований по радиоспорту.
Награды: медаль "Ветеран труда", медаль "80 лет ДОСААФ", значок "Почетный радист", Отличник народного просвещения.
В 1990 году в составе сборной команды СССР выступал в очных соревнованиях по спортивной радиосвязи на "Играх доброй воли" в Сиетле (США).
В 1989 году организовал в Хабаровске очные Игры по радиоспорту между городами-побратимами Хабаровск- Ниигата (Япония) - Портленд (США) - Виктория (Канада), и в дальнейшем Игры стали проводиться с периодичность в 2 года поочередно в городах побратимах Хабаровска. В последствии к этому движению подключились города Пусан (Ю. Корея) и Харбин (Китай).
С 1980 г. Председатель Федерации радиоспорта Хабаровского края, с 2002 г. Председатель Совета РО СРР Хабаровского края.

Анатолий Лаймитайнен    R1СС

Лаймитайнен Анатолий Петрович родился в 1940 году в Ленинграде. Радио стал заниматься ещё в школе, а первый позывной UW1BF получил в 1957 году. Служба в Военно-морском флоте радиотелеграфистом. Рижское авиационное училище ГВФ, курсы бортрадистов. Более 20 лет летал в Аэрофлоте бортрадистом и штурманом на различных самолётах. Учился в школе высшей лётной подготовки в Ульяновске и Кировограде. Летал в Полярной авиации в Северном, Магаданском и Московском управлениях Гражданской авиации.
После ухода на пенсию работал начальником радиостанции в Московском городском радиоклубе, инженером радио и космической связи, в МЧС России, и до сих пор участвует в радиолюбительской аварийно-спасательной службе. Мастер спорта СССР. Имел позывные UV0IA в Магадане, R3AR в Москве и сейчас R1CC в Гатчине, Ленинградской области.

Вячеслав Иванович Мелин родился 29 марта 1954 г. в Московской области г. Озеры.

1981-82: UA1PAM – Архипелаг Земля Франца Иосифа, полярная станция «Остров Рудольфа».

1991-2002: RA3SS/MM – Международная морская кругосветная экспедиция во круг Северного полюса на яхте «Дагмар Эн» - первая в мире парусная яхта, которой в две навигации удалось пройти во круг Северного полюса. Вячеслав (RA3SS) стал первым россиянином, которому посчастливилось обойти вокруг Северного полюса под парусом!

2005-2006: UA0ZDA/MM, KC7JEF/MM – активная работа в эфире из Круизного судна «Любовь Орлова», Антарктика.
Выполнил условия World Oceans Globe #1(01.06.2013) - активация всех океанов и World Seas Award HR 40 PLAQUE #1 (01.06.2013) - активация более 40 морских территорий.
В настоящий момент активированы 52 морских территорий и все океаны. Активен в эфире UA6GO/MM & KC7JEF/MM.

Михаил Михаленков    RN5AA

Михаленков Михаил Леонидович родился 18 октября 1949 г. в г. Ярцево Смоленской области.
В эфире с 1967 года. Работал на коллективной радиостанции Пушкинского радиоклуба. Наблюдательский позывной UA3-142-401. После службы в Советской армии и учебы работал в Радиобюро Главного Радиометцентра радиооператором.
1974-1985: работал в Диксонском управлении гидрометслужбы в Обсерватории имени Е.К. Федорова на мысе Челюскин (самой северной точке Евразии) радиооператором и начальником аппаратной связи обсерватории. 1975: получен позывной UA0BBN, затем RA0BN. Активная работа в эфире.
1975-1985: начальник коллективной радиостанции UK0BAE на мысе Челюскин. Первым в Арктике начал работу через радиолюбительские спутники на самодельной аппаратуре (TX-переделанная авиационная радиостанция на УКВ+ Р-250М на прием, антенна - 10 элементов на 144 Мгц).
Обеспечивал радиосвязью, прогнозами погоды, ледовой обстановкой многие экспедиции по Арктике, в том числе женскую экспедиционную группу «Метелица», экспедиции Дмитрия Шпаро на Северный полюс.
1985-2018: переехал на материк, получил позывной RA3DN в 1986 году, затем RA3DN/3, в апреле 2010 года получен новый позывной 1 категории - RN5AA. В настоящее время на пенсии. Активно работает в радиолюбительском эфире RN5AA.

Борис Григорьевич Суров родился 13.03.1951 г. Первые наблюдения за радиолюбителями на 40 м. диапазоне вещательного приемника АМ в 1964 году.
1965-66: Получен первый наблюдательский позывной из ЦРК СССР UA3-3859 в 1965 г., а при смене позывных в 1966 году региональный - UA3-123-3.
1968: Получен первый личный позывной - UA3ULL в 10 классе.
1969-71: Служба в рядах СА радиотелеграфистом, начальником радиостанции Р-118БМ в Мурманской области, в г. Североморске и поселках Алакуртти, Куолаярви.

Было, так же 9 командировок ВВЭ на дрейфующие станции – СП-26, СП-27, СП-30, СП-31 и подскок СП-28. В совокупности, около 3 лет на дрейфующем льду. Получен значок ААНИИ «Участник дрейфа», с записью в книгу участников дрейфов ААНИИ. Статус значка - непрерывное пребывание на дрейфующем льду более полугода. Работал станционными радиолюбительскими позывными 4K0B, 4K0C, 4K0F, 4K0G, причем последним, кроме Бориса Сурова никто не работал. Несколько раз, в период 1991-1994 гг. из пос. Черский, на барже и по зимнику на льду р. Колыма, выезжал на дельтовые острова р. Колыма – о. ГУСМП и о. Каменка - IOTA AS-70. Проведено несколько тысяч радиосвязей.
С 2001 г. Проживает постоянно в г. Иваново. Новый позывной с 2011 г. – UA3U.
Сегодня на пенсии занимается автомобильными радиоэкспедициями - активирует административные районы РФ и аэродромы по программам RDA и RAFA.
Член клуба "Русский Робинзон" №007 и действительный член Географического общества СССР с 1977 г.

Николай Шапкин    RK1PWA

В 1976 году после окончания школы ДОСААФ на курсах радистов весной 1977 года был призван в ряды СА. Служил в войсках РВСН в должности радио-телеграфиста.
В 1979 году поступил на Курсы Полярных Работников в г. Кучино Московской области и по направлению в 1980 г. начал свою трудовую деятельность на полярной станции Тадибеяха Амдерминского управления метеорологической службы. За время работы в Амдерминском управлении неоднократно посещал другие полярные станции: Каменный, Югорский шар, Белый Нос, Болванский Нос (о. Вайгач) и многие другие.
С 1982 по 1990 года являлся начальником смены на территориальном центре связи Амдермы.
Признавался лучшим специалистом по профессии, ударником коммунистического труда. В социалистических соревнованиях смена неоднократно признавалась лучшей по итогам года. Много лет являлся оператором судового стола по проводке судов через Карские ворота на Восток страны, за что награждался почетными грамотами Мурманского морского пароходства, Амдерминского УГМС.
В 1990 году был включен в состав 36-й Антарктической экспедиции в должности радиотехника на базе Молодежная и был активен на КВ диапазонах 4K1A. После окончания зимовки вернулся в Амдерминское управление на прежнюю должность.
С 1982 г. являлся одним из организаторов и активным участником по работе коллективной радиостанции RK1PWA (ex. UK1PAC, UZ1PWA), участвовал во многих соревнованиях по радиоспорту. Наравне с другими операторами станции оказывал помощь в работе Арктических экспедиций, которые проходили по маршруту следования через Амдерму: полярные экспедиции Дмитрия Шпаро, «Метелица», «Советской России», «Комсомольской правды» и многим другим. C середины 80-х годов и по настоящее время остается начальником и оператором коллективной радиостанции RK1PWA. Является QSL менеджером многих радиоэкспедиций в Арктику и Антарктиду. По настоящее время проживает в поселке Амдерма.
С 2015 г. на пенсии.
Общий стаж проживания в Арктике - 38 лет.

Родился 1 января 1954 г. в Минеральных Водах Ставропольского края. Мастер спорта СССР по радиосвязи на КВ (1990). Впервые взял в руки паяльник в 1965. Первую связь на КВ провел в 1967 с коллективной радиостанции международного пионерского лагеря UB5ARTEK. В 1968 окончил Морские курсы ДОСААФ, принял и передал по 80 знаков в минуту и получил специальность «Радиооператор 3 класса». Родился 2 февраля 1954 г. в г. Новосибирске. Общий стаж работы в эфире – 48 лет! В 1969 г. получил наблюдательский позывной сигнал UA0-128-18 и начал свою активную радиолюбительскую деятельность. С сентября 1970 г. до 2012 года был активным оператором на Камчатских коллективных радиостанциях UK0ZAA (RZ0ZWA) и UK0ZAD.
UA0ZC начиная с 1978 г. и по сей день активно работает в эфире (проведено свыше 150 тыс. QSO) на всех КВ диапазонах (в среднем в эфире – 350 дней в году), при этом использует все виды модуляции: телеграф, телефон и цифровые виды связи. Активно работает в национальных и Международных контестах, а также часто использовал различные СПС в днях активности и радиомарафонах.
С июня 1978 г. был избран действующим членом КДК по Камчатской области. В 1984 г. был избран и назначен Председателем КДК при Камчатском областном радиоклубе ДОСААФ. С момента организации Союза Радиолюбителей России вступил в члены этой организации. В это же время был избран Председателем Квалификационной комиссии РО СРР. Эти обязанности он выполнял до 2017 года. С 2017 г. член Квалификационной комиссии. В 2017 г. избран и назначен на должность председателя Камчатского регионального отделения Союза радиолюбителей России (СРР).
С целью развития средства любительской радиосвязи в Камчатской области UA0ZC, Валерий активно участвовал и проводил в жизнь внедрение новой техники на коллективной радиостанции Камчатского областного радиоклуба, а так же модернизировал, изготовлял и устанавливал новые системы антенно-фидерных устройств коллективного пользования. Активно инициировал освоение и внедрение новых видов связи в радиолюбительском движении на Камчатке. В совершенстве освоил сам и к этому привлек многих радиолюбителей края, обучив их практическому применению в эфире новых и прогрессивных видов радиосвязи.
Большой заслугой UA0ZC, Валерия является то, что за весь период времени работы Председателем квалификационной комиссии он проводил и проводит в настоящее время подготовку молодых операторов радиолюбительских радиостанций. Готовит молодых людей (новичков) к успешной сдаче квалификационных экзаменов. Обладая большим радиолюбительским и профессиональным опытом, помогает молодым, вновь открывшимся радиолюбителям в создании их радиостанций и антенно-фидерных устройств. Только за последние прошедшие десять лет с его помощью в Камчатском крае молодым людям были присвоены Свидетельства об образовании позывных сигналов более чем 130 человек с присвоением последним индивидуальных позывных сигналов. Многие (оставшиеся проживать в Камчатском крае) из этих вновь открывшихся радиолюбителей и по настоящее время остаются и работают в радиолюбительском эфире. На протяжении боле двух десятилетий UA0ZC, Валерий обучает практической работе в эфире новых, молодых членов РО СРР, дает им необходимые знания в областях радиотехники и электротехники. Всех желающих из этого числа обучает Азбуке Морзе, Правилам использования радиочастот и Правилам радиообмена при проведении любительской связи в эфире.
Для привлечения новых членов в ряды СРР, начиная с середины девяностых годов прошедшего столетия ежегодно, по приглашению директоров и преподавателей школ Камчатского края, проводит встречи со школьниками старших классов, читает научно-познавательные лекции о радиолюбителях и радио любительском движении в России и в мире.
Так же неоднократно проводил и проводит по каналам Камчатского ТВ и Радио выступления по пропаганде радиолюбительского движения в Российской Федерации. Тем самым ведет пропаганду радиолюбительства и радиоспорта и вовлекает в занятие радиолюбительством новых граждан, проживающих в Камчатском крае. Как правило, эти выступления приурочиваются к празднику «День Радио».
Как член Русского Географического общества, многие годы (с 1980 г.) является активным участником и организатором радиоэкспедиций, проводимых на территории России, в том числе и на территории Камчатского края в труднодоступные и островные территории, обеспечивая необходимую логистику и комплектацию экспедиций радиооборудованием и радиоаппаратурой.

Участвовал и продолжает участвовать в более чем в 500 различных соревнованиях международного, национального и межрегионального статусов, при этом существуют зафиксированные рекорды в зоне CQ 19, в таких мировых соревнованиях как CQ WW CW (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008) на различных диапазонах.
В девяностые годы, до появления интернета, активно занимался внедрением и эксплуатацией радиолюбительской пакетной радиосвязи на Дальнем Востоке.
Отдает предпочтение цифровым видам связи, в особенности телеграфу.
Вторым основным направлением в радиохобби - конструирование, настройка и ремонт радиоаппаратуры повышенной сложности.

Александр Александрович Волков, U4MIR, родился 27 мая 1948 г. в Горловке, Сталинская область, Украинская ССР, СССР. Советский и российский лётчик-космонавт, Герой Советского Союза. Его сын Сергей — также космонавт.
В 1970 году окончил Харьковское высшее военное авиационное училище лётчиков имени дважды Героя Советского Союза С. И. Грицевца. Служил в Военно-воздушных силах лётчиком-инструктором. Имеет квалификации «Военный лётчик 1-го класса» и «Лётчик-испытатель 2-го класса». В отряде советских космонавтов с 1976 года.
Первый космический полёт
17 сентября — 21 ноября 1985 года А. А. Волков совместно с В. В. Васютиным и Г. М. Гречко совершил в качестве космонавта-исследователя на КК «Союз Т-14» и орбитальной научной станции «Салют-7» полёт, продолжительностью 64 суток 21 час 52 мин.
Была осуществлена стыковка корабля с орбитальным научно-исследовательским комплексом «Салют-7» — «Союз Т-13», на котором работал экипаж основной экспедиции (В. А. Джанибеков и В. П. Савиных).
Второй космический полёт
26 ноября 1988 — 27 апреля 1989 года А. А. Волков совместно с С. К. Крикалёвым и Жан-Лу Кретьеном (фр. Jean-Loup Chrétien) совершил в качестве командира КК «Союз ТМ-7» и орбитальной научной станции «Мир» продолжительностью 151 сутки 11 часов 10 минут.
Была осуществлена стыковка корабля с орбитальным научно-исследовательским комплексом «Мир» — «Союз Т-13», на котором работал экипаж основной экспедиции (В. Г. Титов, М. Х. Манаров и В. В. Поляков). А. А. Волков совместно с французским космонавтом Ж-Л. Кретьеном осуществил выход в открытый космос. Продолжительность выхода в космос составила 5 часов 57 минут.
Третий космический полёт
2 октября 1991 — 25 марта 1992 года А. А. Волков совместно с Т. О. Аубакировым и Ф. Фибёком (нем. Franz Viehböck) совершил в качестве командира КК «Союз ТМ-13» и орбитальной научной станции станции «Мир» продолжительностью 175 суток 2 часа 52 минуты.
Была осуществлена стыковка корабля с орбитальным научно-исследовательским комплексом «Мир» — «Союз ТМ-12», на котором работал экипаж основной экспедиции (А. П. Арцебарский и С. К. Крикалёв).
А. А. Волков совместно с С. К. Крикалёвым осуществил выход в открытый космос. Продолжительность выхода в космос составила 4 часа 12 минут. Суммарное время в космосе — 391 сутки 11 часов 54 минуты. Имел два выхода в открытый космос общей продолжительностью 10 часов 9 минут.
HAMRADIO
Александр Александрович Волков, U4MIR, летчик-космонавт и радиолюбитель. Из всех российских космонавтов является наиболее активным радиолюбителем. Его позывной можно часто слышать на КВ диапазонах. Увлекся радиолюбительством еще в детстве. Благодаря его усилиям начались регулярные сеансы радиосвязи с экипажами космических станций, находящимися в полете. Провел с борта космической станции МИР свыше 4000 связей, что является абсолютным рекордом. Является главой администрации ЗАТО «Звездный городок». При его поддержке и непосредственном участии развивается радиолюбительская деятельность в Звездном городке.

Геннадий Григорьевич Шульгин, RZ3CC. Один из старейших радиолюбителей России. Свою радиолюбительскую деятельность начал в 1957 году. Является оператором экстракласса, но наибольшую известность приобрел как разработчик и настройщик радиоаппаратуры. Его имя давно стало брендом, олицетворяющим высокое качество работы. Аппаратура, прошедшая через руки Геннадия, пользуется особой популярностью у радиолюбителей. Посвятив свою жизнь радиолюбительству, много сил отдает его популяризации и сохранению чистоты сути этого движения. Является участником многих радиоэкспедиций.
При его непосредственном участии был реализован проект, позволивший экипажам космической станции МИР вести любительскую радиосвязь из космоса. Работая в журнале РАДИО, неоднократно выезжал в места стихийных бедствий (Спитак, Чернобыль, Афганистан…), оказывая оттуда помощь людям средствами любительского радио. Его навыки работы с радиоэлектронной аппаратурой особенно пригодились при ликвидации последствий чернобыльской трагедии.
Его отношение к работе и ее эффективность в те трагические дни были отмечены орденом "За личное мужество".

В Рижский Радиоклуб Александра Вилкс привёл в далеком 1957 году его старший брат Вилис Вилкс, RQ2ACR чтобы «послушать спутник». Это дело его очень увлекло. В марте 1959 года он получил свой SWL позывной UQ2-22317 и cтал радиооператором коллективной радиостанции UQ2KAA. Весной 1961 года при Рижском Радиоклубе Александр Вилкс организовал республиканскую секцию SWL (LSWLS) и был избран её председателем и бессменным руководителем уже 62 года. Во время службы в Советской Армии был активен как UQ2-22317/UD6 и оператором коллективной радиостанции Бакинского Радиоклуба UD6KAB. С 1964 года начал сотрудничать с газетами «Патриот Батькивщины» и «Советский Патриот», а также был внештатным корреспондентом журнала «РАДИО» где традиционно долгие годы вел рубрику «SWL» и писал различные статьи. На любительских диапазонах с 1967 года. Был членом долгие годы: Совета Рижского Радиоклуба, членом Президиума ФРС Латвийской ССР, членом Комиссии по работе с наблюдателями при ФРС СССР. Был активным радиооператором международных соревнований на коллективной радиостанции UQ2KAA, организатором и участником экспедиций: 4L3A, UQ2ACR/UA3, UQ2ACR/UA2, RQ2GCR/RA2, UK2GJG/U2F и других. В 1992 году принимал активное участие в создании Лиги радиолюбителей Латвии, избран в Президиум, продолжал руководить секцией SWL. В 2015 году способствовал составлению Положения о порядке образования SWL позывных в Союзе радиолюбителей России (СРР). В 2018 году помогал в создании клуба SWL России (RSWLC.NET). За всё время в секции LSWLS подготовил более 400 SWL к получению лицензии НАМs. На сегодня в эфире работают 42 YL-HAMs его воспитанников. Является членом 72 различных международных радиолюбительских клубов. Соискатель более 33.000 радиолюбительских дипломов, 8 кубков, 12 медалей, более 115.000 бумажных QSL и 75.000 eQSL. Заядлый коллекционер. Имеет огромную коллекцию почтовых марок - более 50.000 штук из 625 стран/территорий мира. Имеет большую коллекцию монет - более 20.000 экземпляров. Принимает участие в работе других SWL клубов – ISWL, SWARL и многих других.

EW4IDP, Кузнецкий Дмитрий Анатольевич, 10 января 1960 г. р., Рязань, РФ, образование высшее (Ленинградский институт авиационного приборостроения).
Первый позывной RA0JBU получил в 1976 году, будучи учеником 10 класса, самостоятельно построив конвертер и передатчик 10 метрового диапазона. При поступлении в Минское авиационное училище, в характеристике - рекомендации от областного радиоклуба указывалось, что является самым молодым коротковолновиком Амурской области. Выход в эфир осуществил самостоятельно, проживая в райцентре г.п. Завитинск Амурской области.
По поступлению в Минское авиатехническое училище организовал коллективную радиостанцию UK2ABG, активно развивая её на протяжении всей учебы. Коллективная радиостанция успешно продолжала работать еще долгое время. Неоднократно получал письма от курсантов училища с благодарностью за создание клубной радиостанции.
После окончания училища, в 1980 году, по добровольному распределению, был направлен на остров Диксон, в Диксонскую авиационную отдельную эскадрилью. Там же оформил позывной UA0BAD, которым активно работал, как непосредственно с острова Диксон, так и с островов Северного Ледовитого океана, будучи в многочисленных командировках на полярных станциях Центральной Арктики.
Участник Воздушной Высокоширотной Экспедиции 1982 года с базированием на острове Средний. В 1983 году, переехавши в Беларусь, г. Гродно, получил позывной UC2IDP, которым, (после перерегистрации EW4IDP), работает и по сей день. С 2000 по 2008 год был председателем Гродненского отделения Белорусской Федерации Радиоспортсменов и Радиолюбителей. Неоднократно организовывал радиоэкспедиции и участвовал в них. 2003 год - EW60GR, в честь освобождения Беларуси; 2005 год - EU5POL/R1Z, российско-белорусская Хибинская экспедиция; 2008 год - UE6MAC/1 – этап радиомарафона Международного радиоклуба Арктика c борта л/к «Красин», посвященный Всемирному Полярному Году; EV5IPY – мемориал Всемирного Полярного года.
C 2000 года член совета МРК «Арктика», пожизненный член Клуба (Member Life). С 2014 года является разработчиком и организатором официального производства серии телеграфных ключей и манипуляторов группы KEYBY: манипулятор «Альманах», манипулятор «Зеро», манипулятор «Lizard», манипулятор «Пеклер», манипулятор «Стэлс», вертикальные ключи «Пионер» и «Эклипс». Изготовлено более тысячи ключей и манипуляторов, которыми с удовольствием пользуются радиолюбители многих стран.
Последнее место работы и должность – заместитель начальника мастерской связи УВД Гродненского облисполкома.
С марта 2023 г. пенсионер. Имеет звание «Ветеран труда».

I live in Augusta, the "island of Palme", a town built by Frederick II of Swabia in Sicily (1232). I was born on the 22nd of July 1963 in Donnalucata, a small fishing village in the municipality of Scicli (Ragusa - Sicily Island).
I am currently retired after about 37 years of service in the Italian Navy. I was a Lieutenant (OR-9) specializing in telecommunications, archives and encryption, navigation and meteorology.
I was embarked on the destroyer ARDITO, on the training ship A. VESPUCCI, on the GROSSO corvette, on the VISINTINI corvette, on the DANAIDE missile corvette. I was also a petty-officer in charge of TLC training at the Command of the First Corvette Squadron (COMSQUACORV UNO), petty-officer in charge of operational training at COMFLOTCORV, COMFORPAT and in the N3S section at the Command in Chief of the Naval Squad in Rome (CINCNAV), for many years I was the Archives and Code Chief of Staff of the Navy Command in Sicily (MARISICILIA), first in Messina and later in Augusta.
I have sailed all over the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.
I am married to Anna and we have two daughters (Silvia graduated at the law university), and Chiara (currently studying at the University of Catania in Communication Sciences).
I have developed this passion for radio and for radiocommunications in general since when I was just 10 years old and I had in hand one of the first walkie-talkie to a channel for CB (27 Mhz). Later I bought my first radio a MAX-21 (23 channels in AM) and a ground plane as an antenna. The passion for DX led me to evolve the station with a sideband system and later (after leaving in the Navy and with the first earnings) I bought a complete Yaesu line of the 757 series with a three element Directive. In 1994 I got a class A license and in 1996 I was officially issued the station name IT9MRM. I have been very active in voice radio and I have also operated from various Sicilian islands (Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Favignana) and from some lighthouses.

I participated in 8 Polar expeditions on North Pole in the years 1990’s. I was member of a French polar logistical team on ice drifting base Barneo (89° North Latitude).
After that, I operate regular from Spitsbergen island (Svalbard) with call JW/F8DVD (8 times).
I have a second hobby : polar philately. Since 25 years, I am working on a postal history of E. T. Krenkel expeditions.

First callsign, DM4UIH, in 1966, when I was 15 years old, learned the code in age of twelve. My main interest in ham radio is CW on HF bands. I like ragchewing, dxing and sometimes contesting too. In contests, I usually don´t go for scores, but I like operating. Real QSOs have more personal touch. By the way I´m an old-fashioned CW-Op. Use the PC for logging only. My preferred keys are semiautomatics by Vibroplex a well trained fist with such a key sounds like music.I´m a so called little pistol. Never used an amplifier at any time. Run "barefoot" into a 26m end-fed wire antenna@15m, similar W3EDP. With my small set up I have worked some DX and awards over the years.I have climbed up my personal "Summits" the DXCC Challenge 1500 and 5Band DXCC as well sticker 160m, 30m, 17m and 12m.
Since 2014, I´m retired after 46 years in business. All I got to do now is enjoying life with my beloved wife Eva, eating, sleeping and ham radio

SWL since age 12. I was "on the air" for the first time in the evening of 26th January 1981 at age 15. The novice license only allowed me to use CW and 15 Watts output on the HF-bands (LB was a novice license back then). First QSO was with DL5JP on 40 meters at 20:05 UTC. On my 16th birthday (sep 1981), I started using LA5EBA as callsign (Class-A license). On 17th October 2008, after 27 years as LA5EBA , I received permission to use my old "vanity" callsign again - still with full privileges.
I graduated from the radio officer training school at age 17 with a Radio Officer 2nd class certificate issued on my 18th birthday. After a year at sea, I upgraded to 1st class. Then, "suddenly", I had to go to the navy and do my service there. I was a radio operator in the Norwegian Coast Guard (Coastguard vessel "Senja"). Mainly in the Barents sea area. I also served as a radio operator in the Army. Both in Bergen and Oslo area. I worked several years in the Norwegian Foreign Ministry as a radio operator in charge of daily radio communication with Norwegian embassies in approx. 40 countries around the globe. I spent several years as a radio technician for the same employer, dealing with communication both home and abroad at the embassies. Total visited 77 UN countries and 93 TCC countries.
In January 1994, I started on a 6 month contract as a weather observer / radio operator at Hopen Island (76.47N – 25.03E) and was QRV as JW5EBA. It was at the sunspot minimum. I worked approx. 3500 QSOs from there. A lot of time was spent ragchewing on CW with my friends on Victoria Island, Franz Josef Land and northern part of Russia. (i.e. 4K2BCA, 4K2BY, 4K2OX, 4K2PGO, UA1ZO and a few others).
I am now 53 years old and work as a Marine Radio Surveyor, performing survey on GMDSS installations on ships. I also do the practical examination of new ROC and GOC candidates (maritime GMDSS certificates).
All my activities and DX chasing has been without a beam. 324 DXCCs and 2417 slots for the Challenge are confirmed. I am QRV more or less every day, even though I am still at work every weekday.... I am QRV on all HF bands - 100% CW. Mostly Ragchewing, but also looking around for a new slot - and sometimes a new DXCC. Having fun with my Begali Paddle, the Vibroplex Deluxe Bug or my straight key...
In 2016, I operated together with a team from Cocos (Keeling) Island, VK9CK. We made approx. 25000 QSOs from there.

When did I become a Ham?
In the age of 16, back in 1973, I became one of the youngest radio amateurs in Germany. During that time the law was strict and you had to be 18 to get a HAM radio license. It was not easy, but thanks to the intervention of our local Amateur Radio Club (DARC Mainz), the officials made an exception and let me pass the examination two years earlier! I was issued the call DK7PE without limitations!

What brought me into Ham Radio?
When I was a young boy I was fascinated about anything regarding radio communication. Even a broken, flashing neon street light could make me think about secret Morse code messages… but I still couldn’t understand them (Hi). Soon I built my first “transmitter”, at the age of ten, out of a battery, a coil and several meters of wire. Not to forget the key out of a metal strip. It was really magic, being heard with a “knack, knack knack” on any AM radio in up to 200m around our house. A new world opened up when I got my first used DRAKE 2-B receiver. Being an SWL and listening to stations thousands of miles away, like King Namgyal AC3PT out of the Kingdom of Sikkim, the voice of well-known Father Moran 9N1MM from the “Top of the World” or the dramatic emergency call of YN1DS after the biggest ever earthquake in Managua/Nicaragua, was so exciting that I spent hours on the radio until late in the night, just listening.

What has been the biggest highlight of my Ham Radio experience?
There were so many highlights I remember, so to mention my TN0CW operation out of Congo or TL0CW (Central African Republic) and many others. One of them was certainly my very first opportunity to operate from outside of Germany, back in 1978 during a four weeks low budget trip to Egypt. There I was as allowed to guest-operate VO1LX/SU out of the UN-Camp in Ismailia/Egypt. It was inconceivable to sit on the other side of a pile-up for the very first time. From this day on, the combination of traveling and Amateur Radio was the most exciting combination in our hobby – to me!

When did I win my first DX award?
In January 1985 I completed my 5BDXCC. This was a hard one to me, because I only had rather poor antennas. But I continued and finally I also completed the 5BWAZ, where zone 12 and 31 on 80m were the most difficult ones to work. With the years I had travelled a lot and had activated several DXCC countries.
My operations were financially limited and so were the locations I could go. Therefore, I concentrated on 160m and of course CW. In this combination there were countless possible DX locations available for me.
I knew the pile-ups from both sides and I thought: Why shouldn’t it be possible to operate out of 100 DXCC countries? This aim I reached back in the 1995 and today I have operated out of #143 DXCC entities.
During my One Man DXpeditions I always had to watch the maximum weight I could carry around. Therefore, I designed wire antennas that fit in my suitcase and were ready to operate within a short time. A Three Element Jumper Beam from 40-10m and Slopers for the low bands were always with me.

What would I say is the best part of being a Ham?
To me, the best part in our hobby is that have a chance get in contact with people in almost every corner and culture on earth. Though we have heard but never seen each other before, we have so many stories to talk about. Due our hobby I have met people I would never had a chance to meet without being a HAM. Amateur Radio gave me a chance to see the whole world out of a different perspective.

What advice would I give to new Hams and those looking to get into Ham Radio?
Amateur Radio can have a very positive influence on your whole life. It gives you the great chance to become a real internationalist and widening your personal horizon, not only geographical and in languages but also in understanding other cultures. To me, Amateur Radio was the best that could ever happen to me. It became to me, literally speaking “A bridge to the world!”
Amateur Radio isn’t a virtual game on the computer – it’s a real adventure! I have many examples where a QSL card opened doors to premises protected like a castle. And if somebody says, why do I need Amateur radio, when I have a mobile phone, I reply: Would you ever ask a mountain climber: “Why do you climb a high mountain, when you can do it easily by using a helicopter?” Shure not! Even though most of us don’t know the feeling of having climbed a mountain, we can imagine that there is something indescribable! And it is the same with our hobby, even in a time of mobile phones and Internet. Amateur Radio is more than talking to someone. It is real and may fascinate you for your whole life. Go and find it out!

What next?
In 2017 I finished working, so I have more time to travel. It is my aim to activate some more DX countries and if I am lucky I will complete #200 one day.

Мартынов Игорь Анатольевич родился 22.10.1954 г. в Омской области. Общий стаж работы в эфире - 45 лет.
В 1972 году поступил в Лиепайское мореходное училище, работал на коллективной радиостанции UK2GAT. С сентября 1975 по 1992 год – работа в Рижской базе тралового флота в должностях – радиоператор, электрорадионавигатор, начальник радиостанции.
Продолжал работу в колективных радиостанций г. Лиепая: UK2GAT, UK2GCF, UK2GWT. В 1980 году получил личный позывной сигнал UQ2GIZ. КМС СССР (1981). В 1993 г. получил новый позывной - YL3IZ. YL3IZ/MM (1995-1997, 2017-2018). Работа на морских судах: 1975-1992 - Радио оператор; 1994-2002 - Radio officer.
После 2000 года, началась эра спутниковой связи с судами. По этой причине сократили радистов на морском транспорте. Пришлось еще раз закончить Лиепайский морской Колледж. Bodo Fritsche was first licensed in 1992 as DG1OBJ. He then upgraded to DL3OCH and had his first little DXpedition to HB0 in 1994. He was interested in DXing and activating other DXCCs and IOTAs. Bodo joined the German Navy in 1996 and was based on a sail training ship as a standing crew member. This gave him the opportunity to travel and activate DXCCs like ZB2, EA9, VP9, CU, 3A, IS0, TK and many others. After spending five years at the Navy, he studied electrical engineering with focus on RF. His later job in the antenna development opend new door to make hiss mall DX activities more efficient. A lot of countries were added on his list and Bodo started to activate many IOTAs as well as activate countries for the first time ever via the moon (EME) on 1.3GHz. The real pleasure started when he started a job as commissioning engineer at Ampegon (former Thomson). This new job allows him to travel to DX locations and enjoy his hobby or at least share his experience with local OMs. Countries like 5N, 5H, HZ, 7X, SU, BY, BV, DU, T8 were added and in many cases his work could benefit from the hobby. Now in 2018, Bodo has visited 83 DXCCs. He has been active from 67 DXCCs as well as 53 IOTAs. Besides DXing and a little bit contesting, Bodo enjoys it to play around with big amplifiers and antennas. Bodo is married and hast wo kids.

Dr. Volker Strecke, DL8JDX (former Calls DM3LTG, Y43UG, Y24LN) has 43 years experience in Radio Communications now. He achieved his first Amateur Radio License in 1975. In 1983 he had the unique experience to get a first shortwave HF contact with the continent in the south. It was the russian scientific research station Molodezhnaya 4K1HK in Antarctica.
Since then he focused on exploring long distance DX communications, especially with the polar regions. Only 6 years later, in 1988, he did set his foot on the antarctic continent. In that time Volker Strecke was responsible for Information Technology and polar communication services and between 1988 and 1994 he was member of three overwintering expeditions in Antarctica.
From 1988 to 1989 and 1990 to 1992 he did operate with the call Y88POL from the german research station Georg Forster in the Schirmacher Oasis and from 1992 to 1994 he was active as DP0GVN from the Neumayer II base on the Ekstroem Shelf Ice.
With his work during these expeditions, with many thousands QSO contacts with ham radio stations from more than 100 countries all over the world, and with many presentations and lectures in the later time he contributes to communicating to the public about the fascination and the importance of the polar regions for our life.
A special highlight was a rare HF contact between the two polar caps of our planet. Exact 30 years ago, during his stay in Antarctica as Y88POL, at 19th April 1988, 1104 UTC he managed to get in contact with the drift station Northpole-29 in the Arctic with the call 4K0E in telegraphy CW in the 20 meters band.
In 1993 when Volker was working in the Neumayer II station as DP0GVN he was member of an international radio network with several antarctic research stations, including the Amundsen-Scott southpole base KC4AAA, in order to coordinate a rescue operation for a norwegian explorer group moving on the ice which had an accident in a crevasse area.
In the later years he supported many antarctic and arctic radio communication events, such as for example the Worldwide Antarctic Programme WAP, several RAEM contests or the RAEM-110 celebration activities. He was honoured with several antarctic and arctic awards.
In 2009 together with other operators from the bavarian ham radio district C he did work with the special call DR09ANT in order to support the International Polar Year.
Today Dr. Volker Strecke, DL8JDX, works as a manager for information technology and he is still active in hunting for polar radio stations and supporting polar radio communication activities.

I was born in 1970 and have had an interest in HF radio since the early eighties. Eventually, I received my first amateur radio license in 1986. I got involved in DXpeditioning (4U1ITU, 4U1VIC, 3V8BB, 5A2A, C30EFA, ZL8X and others) and Contesting (WRTC 2000). My hobby eventually led me to a career in electronic engineering. For the last 15 years, I have worked for a shipping company in the field of polar research. I regularly travel to Antarctica and have spent two winters at the German research station «Neumayer» where I helped to re-establish the club station DP0GVN and install a permanent HF beacon. During Antarctic expeditions, I can often be heard on the ham bands signing DP1POL, usually in CW or digital modes. I am a member of DARC (Deutscher Amateur-Radio-Club), ARRL (American Radio Relay League) and NARL (Namibian Amateur Radio League).

It is a big honour for me to receive the Krenkel Medal. In Leipzig I could get to know 1961 E.T.Krenkel personally. Also I am proud of many QSOs with him. The yearly taking place RAEM contest is a special challenge which I like to accept with pleasure.
My year of birth is in 1938. At the age of 16 years I learnt Morse code and got in 1958 the first amateur radio licence. During more than 60 years of my amateur radio activity I have experienced the technical and radio traffic development. Thus I always felt obliged to the technical progress and the radio operation in the spirit of the understanding among nations. The mutual esteem is especially important to me.

About 50 years I am entrusted with duties in amateur radio organisations: teacher in Morse code, head of division in the Radioclub of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), contest and award manager in the district Rostock, vice president of the Radio Sport Association (RSV) of the GDR, chairperson of the district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, member of the board of directors of the German Amateur-Radio-Club (DARC) and now deputy of the district chairperson. The core of this many-sided engagement was and is the mediation of impulses to the active amateur radio activity. Besides, the acknowledgment of achievement at all levels is especially important.
I could reach the most important success with the creation of the legal basis for the radio amateurs of the GDR with the union with the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). All rights were preserved and the members of the club stations got individual licences.
The board of directors of the RSV of the GDR had organised the structures for the complete insertion in the DARC.
With much political talent the German unity was for the radio amateurs of the GDR as legal well as organizationally had been formed with dignity.
At the age of 80 years I am glad to be able to work still actively for the promotion of the radio activities. The administration of web pages, the management of special stations of the district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern counts to these activities as well as the work as a site manager of the World Radio Team Championship (WRTC) 2018 in Germany.
Telegraphy is with 96% of all QSOs my preferential mode. With 60 German and 30 call signs from 18 countries I have effected about 275 thousand QSOs - of it 45 thousand of the island Madeira.
Contests are now my main radio activity. Besides, is important: the challenge accept and in the pile up to exist and not switch off. With a simple radio equipment I reach the first third in result lists. And, besides, only the half contest time is available to me because I share contests with my wife Rosel, DL3KWR. Thus we both have pleasure in the contest.
Every year we are in the time of the Russian DX Contest on the island Madeira and offer with pleasure the multiplier CT9; the contester expect us. With an easy radio equipment we are present and give to other radio friends an example of radio operation.
The modern electronic possibilities allow recognition for everybody. With the certificate acquisition the protection of traditions is also important. The pennon "Sea Of Peace" has got over all questionings and was in 2018, 60 years old. Proudly I am also on a certificate which the district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has published on the occasion of "65 years after the licencing of the amateur radio in the GDR". Settled with HAMLOGS.NET (R4AS and RQ4A) everything ran perfectly through the internet: no special application form, no QSLs, no manager, no costs - this is modern amateur radio!
The oldest tradition on the amateur radio is the QSL exchange. These cards are also a kind of personal cards and have with it a special ideal value. But, all wishes could never be fulfilled. Now, because there are electronic ways, this wish would be attainable. HAMLOGS.net and in particular the universal system EQSL.CC offer confirmed data and selfprintable out QSL cards. As member of the board I help the EQSL users worldwide. 60 years ago nobody would have risquély to dream of such possibilities.
Radio amateurs devote themselves more than 100 years to the technical progress. They are pioneers and ambassadors. Now and then widespread reservations hinder the unlimited use of modern procedures. Here we have a big sphere of activity to be able to work for the spirit of E.T.Krenkel.

I received GM3ITN in 1950 when I was 15. Which was a 25 watt licence cw only that was 69 years ago and now I am 84 years old. I also hold the calls DL2YI, EA1DNP and VP8ITN.

My favorite mode is CW and I like mostly DX contacts. During many travels around the world I tasted the other side of a pile-up with different calls (for example 8P9XC).
My QTH near Berlin is in a Flora-Fauna region called “Spreewald” (German for "Spree Forest"). It was designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1991 (DLFF-030). I activated this region with the special callsign DM700BURG, which reminds of 700 years after the foundation of the village Burg, the main settlement in the Spreewald region where I live.
I’m member of AGCW (#925), SKCC (#5938), DIG (#3272) and vice chairman of QCWA Germany (Chapter 106), member #35901.
In „real life“ I’m head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Carl-Thiem-Clinical-Center in Cottbus, the largest hospital in the State of Brandenburg. In the near future it will be University Hospital.
Prof. Dr. med. Carl Thiem was the founder of the hospital and introduced the trauma and reconstructive surgery in Germany. He wrote and published 1898 the trendsetting handbook "Compendium of Trauma Diseases depend on own Medical Experience". In 1914 he established a modern hospital in Cottbus for the fast growing population in the age of industrialisation. In honor of his name I carried out the special callsign DM100CTK (100 years Carl-Thiem-Klinikum) in the world. At the open house presentation I installed an amateur radio station in the entrance hall and was QRV directly from there. Within one year DM100CTK got the DXCC and the WAE Award.

I work as a Deputy Director for an Operational Department at an international airline company here in Kuwait, and I hold an Airline Transport Pilot License and I’m certified to fly a single and twin engine aircraft. I got educated in Kuwait and then studied Aeronautical Science and did my Pilot Training in the United States and Qatar.
My interest in amateur radio was awakened when I was 12 years old and my dad gifted me an 11M radio transceiver. I joined Kuwait Amateur Radio Society (KARS), having gained my A Class Call-Sign(9K2KU).
Anyway the net result was that I didn’t buy an HF rig, but using the KARS one. I am also looking in the direction of MOBILE and AERONAUTICAL MOBILE HF, VHF, UHF DXing!
If HAMs are going to use the internet.. Let's encourage them to use:

Journey in Amateur Radio
Having come into the hobby by chance – having been an BC Dxer for more than 3 years – after coming across an article in a vernacular magazine and recoginizing some of the “call signs” – OM Madhu has grown into an active DXer and Contester. He has nurtured, groomed and mentored many enthusiasts to become Amateur Radio operators. His contribution to Amateur Radio activities especially in Mysuru (previously called Mysore) is widely acknowledged. He had sent SWL reports to Radio Amateurs in India and other countries and has received QSL cards for SWL reports on 80, 40, 20 & 15 m bands. He now has DXCC in all three modes – CW, Phone & Digital and on multiple bands. I am 23 years old have recently qualitied in Bachelor of Technology education with an emphasis on Electronics and Communications at Swami Vivekananda Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, India. I grew up in an ecosystem surrounded by Amateur radio operators as both of my parents VU2JOS & VU3LMS work at National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR). My brother is Tony VU2UI. Having seen my parents and others operating radio, I got inspired to join this hobby and worked towards getting my license at a young age of 13 years. I was issued the callsign VU3TMO (Restricted Grade license) in 2011 and upgraded to VU2TO (General Grade license) in 2015. I am a 3rd generation ham, my grandfather was VU2ACN.
I have participated in numerous contests from NIAR club station and received operating achievement from ARRL, CQ USA, RSGB Great Britain, DARC Germany, JARL Japan, ARI Italy, IARC Israel, WIA Australia, France, Poland, Ukraine, Indonesia, India etc. I was awarded the prestigious ARRL Diamond DXCC Award when I was 14 years old in 2012. My efforts in providing emergency communication with NIAR team during the Hud Hud cyclone in 2014 has been appreciated by several National and International media.
I was interviewed by the film star Mr. Nagarjuna on a popular TV program about my role in emergency communications which was telecast several times by many local TV channels.
Details about my Amateur Radio emergency communication activity is now taught in the Class IX English subject in the schools in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, India. I am helping to propagate the hobby among the youth of my country. I conduct demos and training for Amateur Radio exam at NIAR from time to time.

I met W5YI VEC examination Kyushu team, then.
Some of the team members have been visiting Palau for more than 20 years and I was invited to go DX vacation together with them. Since my first visit in January 2016, I have been to Palau 8 times and I am active from 160m to 6m as T88UW.
During my stay for 1 week, I am enjoying QSO to all over the world and also enjoying contest from Palau.

Научился читать по книге «Юный радиолюбитель» Борисова В.Г. первого издания, которая случайно попала моему отцу, а для меня стала порталом в удивительный мир РАДИО. Радиоприемник «Балтика» у деда в доме довершил формирование мировоззрения на всю последующую жизнь. Все и всегда рассматривалось через призму РАДИОЛЮБИТЕЛЬСТВА.
Оно всегда было на первом месте при принятии решений и выбора жизненного пути: в школьные годы, при выборе профессии, учебы в институте, места работы, строительства дома, покупки автомашины и даже страны проживания.
Первые успешные шаги по выходу в эфир в диапазоне средних волн совпали с подарком от родителей-подпиской на журнал «РАДИО» 1968 года и первым юбилеем: мне исполнилось 10 лет. В 12 лет был получен первый позывной: UI8 053 287. Наблюдательство за работой любительских станций увлекло с головой. Сразу был освоен телеграф так как распирало любопытство что там передают и как ведется обмен между любительскими радиостанциями. Подошел момент, когда по возрасту уже можно было оформить индивидуальный позывной на КВ диапазоны. Сдал документы и стал делать телеграфный передатчик. Пока ждал позывной, (а на это ушла целая вечность-2 года!) закончил школу и поступил в Ташкентский электротехнический институт связи.
Хотел на факультет радиосвязи и радиовещания, но недобрал 1 балл и пришлось идти на факультет автоматической связи в надежде потом перевестись. Оказалось, что не все так просто.
Декан РС и РВ поставил условие что перевод будет с потерей 1 года и годовой стипендии. Думал я не пойду на такой шаг. Но уже был получен позывной UI8ADN и приходилось выкраивать время для учебы так как работа в эфире была на первом месте. Так я два года проучился на третьем курсе и закончил институт за 6 лет на отлично. Потом работа инженером в радиовещании и активная работа в эфире.
В 1984 году получил позывной из новой серии: RI8AA
1991 год. В день РАДИО присваивают звание «Почетный РАДИСТ СССР» и времена резко меняются. Развал Великой Страны и в результате потеря позывного RI8AA. Дошло до того, что те, кто занимался реформой позывных так увлеклись распределением четырехзначных позывных среди своего круга, что напрочь забыли о целом блоке RI8xx попутно разрушив систему привязки позывных к области и не думая о том, что через лет 10 емкость позывных в Узбекистане будет исчерпана.
Это был момент, когда пришлось бросить работу и с громадными усилиями, поначалу в одиночку пытаться предотвратить катастрофу под названием «реформа позывных». В последние декабрьские дни 1993 года, в самый последний момент, удалось предотвратить выдачу уже отпечатанных разрешений и заново проделать всю работу, максимально сохранив ранее существующую структуру позывных.
С 1 января 1994 года зазвучал мой новый позывной - UK9AA. Надеюсь это была последняя смена позывного, которому уже 25 лет! Все эти годы пришлось непосредственно заниматься отстаиванием интересов радиолюбительского движения в Республике Узбекистан и представлять его в радиочастотных органах страны. Проводить чемпионаты Узбекистана по радиосвязи на КВ и УКВ. Участвовать в международных соревнованиях и устанавливать новые рекорды Узбекистана в CQ WW и нашей 17 зоны.
Время стремительно бежит, все меняется, но та самая дедовская «Балтика» так же весело подмигивает зеленым глазом индикатора настройки с почетного места в шэке каждому новому трансиверу и мальчишке на фотографии удостоверения наблюдателя с позывным UI8 053 287.
Один из внуков начинает учиться читать. Надо будет подсунуть ему тот самый мой «букварь», с которого у меня все и началось - «Юный радиолюбитель» Борисова В.Г. первого издания.

In 1999, I met Bill 9N7ZK in the IARU convention in Tel Aviv. I had always wanted to operate from Nepal in memory of Father Moran, 9N1MM, an old friend. I also wanted to be the first to make a QSO in 6 mtr from Nepal and operate RTTY and SSTV. Plus of course, have a vacation with the entire family. So I started working on the plan.
In February 2003 I applied for the call sign 9N7DX to the Ministry of Commerce in Nepal and received the basic confirmation from Satish, 9N1AA. I then contacted my friend IZ8CCW from the MDXC Club in Italy of which I am a member and asked him to help me design a Website which would represent my activities and frequencies and 1 daily sched for everyone on 14.195 at 1500 GMT.
I finally left Tel Aviv for Kathmandu via Mumbai on the 21st of April 2003. I met my good friend Sarla, VU2SWS in Mumbai and spent the day with her, sightseeing and visiting her shack and family. On the 21st evening I was finally in Kathmandu! Hugo, 9N7YJ and my son Mat, 4Z5DX received me at the airport and we headed for the Hotel in Thamel where we put up a tower with 4 different dipole antennas and we were all set for the action.
But the beginning was not that easy. The procurement of the licence was long and tedious. I had to go from one official to another, from the bank to the ministry and it took a good 4 days for it all to end. During this period I traveled around the Kathmandu area.

I was born in 1962 and licensed as JH7PKU in 1976 at the age of 14, and have primarily been using this callsign ever since. Ex-calls include 3DA0JA, AA3JA, JF0JYP, K6I (WRTC'96), KJ5JL, V8JA, and I am an ex-member of various radio clubs including University of Tokyo (JA1YWX/JA1ZLO/JG1ZUY, '81-'90), University of Pennsylvania (N3KZ, '94-'96) and Frankford Radio Club (Philadelphia, '94-'96).
I have been active in both DX and Japanese domestic contests from home and places such as 3DA, FG, JA1, JA8, KH0, V85 and W3. Currently access to my home contest station in Fukushima-prefecture is limited due to the Fukushima nuclear power plant failure which occurred in the Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011.
I manage to maintain my activity from my residential QTH in Niigata-prefecture. For me, DXing is not only for DXCC or IOTA credits. I enjoy working expeditions from geographically rare or ethnically exotic locations, and also stations in well-populated countries/areas. I like conventional modes, CW and SSB, as well as exchanging paper QSL cards in an old-fashioned way. My name is Jan Botha. I’m 50 years old, married, and have two sons.
I’m living in a small city called Bloemfontein, capital of the Orange Free State province. Bloemfontein is located in central South Africa, 400km south of Johannesburg.
I was an Avionics technician in the South African Air Force for 21 years working on several fixed wing fighter aircraft and small to medium helicopters. My work entitled avionic radio, radar, instrumentation, electrical, electronic warfare, Sperry 3D compass systems and Helitune.
I’m now a diagnostic Engineer at a medical device company called Beckman Coulter for 11 years. I support, maintain and repair laboratory bloodline instruments in five pathology disciplines. Due to the nature of my work I travel a lot supporting hospitals and ER’s. I also manage a small engineering business from my QTH called Wireless Communications. Here I incorporate electronic and mechanical engineering to the HAM community and private sector.
I‘ve been actively involved with radios for many years. First military avionic communication systems. Secondly as the business owner of Wireless Communications repairing commercial and HAM radios, and various commercial electronic products. I enjoy designing electronic projects and writing code for various applications.
I was mentored from a young age by my HAM elder called Frans Heidler ZS4AE. Unfortunately, I was haltered by the imposed age restriction of 16 years in South Africa, and the current cost of a basic receiver. Forced military duty followed, and it was only in 2003 that I completed my exam and received my unrestricted callsign ZS4JAN (my name is Jan).
A month after receiving my callsign I entered my first contest and won the rookie class in the SARL CW contest, I was hooked. Contesting and chasing awards became my goal and reason for being active on the air. I also hold a permanent contest callsign ZT4T. This personal chase forced me to improve my station with a restricted budget, but with a wealth of technical knowledge. Being an active awards hunter led me to document my awards as they started rolling in. The document to date consists of 117 pages with over 5000 awards and certificates.
My first HAM radio was a Kenwood TS120S. I founded this radio in a scrap box about to be discarded. All the parts needed to complete the radio was on hand because at the time I was a local field agent for Kenwood in South Africa.
My first Yaesu was the FT901DM. Since then I completed the FT901 collection. The FT901DM was also the foundation for my current Yaesu collection. I’m collecting all Yaesu items including logbooks, baseball caps, clocks. My Yaesu collection is listed on https://www.qrz.com/db/zs4jan with an inventory list. My love for valves/tubes got me started in a small vacuum tube collection that is also present on QRZ.com.
I have had the privilege to operate most of the high-end radios, but for me the original Yaesu FT1000MP is still the favorite and best. My daily operating corner consist of two FT1000MP’s connected in SO2R mode. The left hand FT1000MP is complimented by the Yaesu VL1000 amplifier, W2IHY audio deck, and Heil PR40 microphone. The right hand FT1000MP is connected for CW and digital modes. Both FT1000MP’s is controlled by the Super Combo Keyer from ZS4TX. The 6x2 band pass filter stack from W3NQN provided the insulation between the two transceivers. The Band stack controller and station lockout is from ZS4JAN.
The digital interface is from ZS4JAN.
The crank-up tower from Pro-Sis-Tel is only 10 meters high. On top at 15 meters is a 4 element yagi for 12/17m. Below that is the 7 element yagi for 10,15,20m.
My antennas are all home build in my Wireless Communications workshop. The full size yagi design is built on the principles from Optibeam. I also have a 5-band parallel wire dipole covering 10-80m on my southern border and a 3-band wire dipole on my northern border. The 2 dipole antenna systems are used for 20,40,80m SO2R contesting.
I like all the HF bands from 80m to 10m. I am working on a 160m DX vertical. I do not have a favorite band, they are all unique in their own way. My modes of interest are phone SSB, AM, CW, RTTY, BPSK31, JT65, FT8, SSTV.
The noise level at my QTH will range from S5-S7 on the high bands, and S7-S9 on the low bands. Weekends see an increase in noise levels as most families retreat to their homes spending time in front of the tv set.
My HAM activities are limited by my irregular work hours. I try to be on air as much as possible because I do not know when I will receive an emergency call out to the hospital. Covid-19 is a reality. I’m a frontline worker in the medical environment so the lockdown and isolation did not restrict me from daily operations. I did several cross border work operations with documents from the Ministries of Health from both countries to assist hospitals and patients.
I hope the information will paint a picture of me and my HAM career, and the wonderful friends I have made all over this small planet with Amateur Radio.

I am Yves F5PRU and also 6W1TA since 3 years living in Ouakam near Dakar.
I got my first FD1PRU call sign in 1990 and at the same time DA1YM being at that time in Germany in Freiburg im Breisgau.
From 1996 to 1997 I had the chance to go to French Polynesia, working on an atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago. I had obtained the call sign FO5PT. Coming back to Tahiti sometimes, I could be active in Mobile by going up to the Belvedere above Papeete with a rented car, my radio connected to the battery and using a long-wire antenna.
Back in mainland France, I was then active from different countries during my business trips.
Between 1997 and 2016 I was successively T9/F5PRU, T98PRU, J20FH, TT8CY and recently 5U7RK. Very often the traffic conditions were quite rough, especially as I was taking the strict minimum being limited in weight during the trips, trying to find on the place a battery, a mast or a support for the antenna.
In 1999, following a revision of the French callsigns, I became F5PRU.
I have been in charge of clubs stations, including F6KHX, a club station of the "Ecole des Transmissions" located in the west of France.
I also had the chance in 2009 to be part of the FT5GA expedition. It was a great experience that left me with great memories.
I like contacts made in special conditions, in mobile, portable or QRP and try everything that touches our passion, as the satellite in FM mode during my stay in Senegal. But my favorite mode is and will be CW.
For each of my activations, it is with pleasure that I answer all the requests for QSL cards in direct or via office.
My contacts are also uploaded in different online logs (LoTW, eQSL, Clublog and QRZ.com) to satisfy as many people as possible.
I respond favorably to all QSO requests and try to do everything to make the contact.
Now officially retired, I'm going back to France and hope to keep going, but of course I'll continue to be active whatever the place and the conditions, adapting to the environment as I did during all these years.

I was born in Liberia on July 28, 1956 and graduated from the University of Liberia in 1983 with a degree in civil engineering.
At an early age, without any training or prior knowledge of basic electronics, I found myself building electronic gadgets. In my adult age, I was intrigued by security personnel talking through their walkie talkies and when I later read about mobile units in vehicles been used to contact DX stations far and wide, I was immediately hooked and was then determined to have such unit in my vehicle whenever I was able to own one.
I was licensed with a general class as EL2BG to get on the air in 1978 and joined the Liberia Radio Amateur Association. I realized that Eco Lima (Liberia) was a needed DX sought out country, and I made it my personal mission to work all bands including 6M to give opportunities to stations seeking EL to be able to work me, EL2BG. Since propagation was an issue in 2019 from Liberia for voice operation, I have operated mostly digital, FT8, after been introduced to digital and with the addition of my SignaLink USB sound card. I even attempted a few 6M contacts, which were very rare.
I have attempted to be on the radio on all bands every day of the week whenever I have the pleasure and opportunity of having electrical power. I have not had the pleasure of having such power at any 24/7, which dictated my time on the air. I have since retired, December 2020, and again my time on the air depends on the availability of electricity. I am available and will love to be on the air anytime I have or don't have available power. I was fortunate to have procured an 80 Watt Solar Panel Kit with a 12V - 100 amp hour battery that I use daily to be on the air if the battery holds adequate charge after a good sunny day to keep me on the air.
My shack consists of a Yaesu FT-857, an AT-100ProII antenna tuner, a SignaLink USB integrated sound card, an Alinco DM-330FX power supply, a G5RV dipole antenna in an Inverted Vee configuration, a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 and a Harbor Freight’s 80 Watt Solar Panel Kit with a 12V - 100 amp hour battery. A very modest station I will say. I am looking forward for the day when I can have a directional beam and about 500W output.

My name is Chris and my QTH is Uitzicht, in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa.
I was born in the United Kingdom but moved to South Africa in 2010. I have always had a passion for electronics and engineering but was first licenced in 2009 with the foundation callsign MW6GOZ. I wrote the examination with my father, David, MW6DIG. In 2011 I gained the intermediate callsign of 2W0CEO followed by the South African radio amateur examination class A licence in 2015, becoming ZS1CDG and finally, the UK advanced Licence MW0CDG in 2016, for which I passed with merit. I have a passion for transferring the love of amateur radio to the next generation and train students to pass the South African Radio League radio examination in my spare time.
I do love building kits and antennas, as well as making QSOs. Proud owner of the Ultimate 3S WSPR kit from QRP labs and it has been picked up from as far as the USA - not bad for 200mW.
From 20.4.2019 for one week I was active as 7P8GOZ, in the Kingdom of Lesotho, a small independent country within the border of South Africa. Previously, in 2016, I had used this callsign and had a lot of success with the digital mode JT65.
Now that FT8 is very popular, and much faster than JT65, I decided it was time to return to Lesotho to try this mode with a DXpedition.
With me I brought along my home made inverted V antenna, a basic manual antenna tuner and my trusted ICOM IC-707, connected to my computer via a signalink module. The first day was a total disaster! I set everything up to hear no stations at all! I thought that the Gods of Propagation must be working against me but having been successful last time with the same equipment I knew something must be up. At last I found the problem after a day of fault finding - the cable between the balun and ladder line had snapped inside the unit! After a quick trip to a basic hardware shop I managed to gain the tools to fix it. Lesson learned - don't assume that your equipment can survive the journey with you.
With the antenna fixed, the stations now came booming in. I was very surprised and relieved at how could the inverted V antenna worked. Japan went crazy for FT8. One advantage to my previous trip was that Lesotho is now covered with a solid 4G network. This made uploading the Logs much faster and also being able to report in real time with FT8 to PSKreporter really did help - almost too well as at one point I had 8 japan stations trying to call me. At the end of the week I had made just under 400 contacts, not record breaking for an DXpedition for but I was proud of my solo effort and it was a lot of fun.

Michael Edward Amaral was first licensed in 1967 at the age of with the callsign WN1IDP, later changing to WA1IDP in 1968. As a young teenager, Michael was contacting stations in Europe and the former Soviet Bloc Countries via radiotelegraph, always expressing a message of friendship & peace from the United States of America.
In 1986, 1987 & 1988, Michael operated as WA1IDP/CU2, from the Island of Sao Miguel, Azores (Portugal), working and confirming radiotelegraph contacts with many thousands of radio amateurs around the world, always including that same message of peace between nations.
After upgrading his license several times, he eventually changed his callsign to the U.S. Amateur Extra Class Callsign "N1MX".
Over the past 20-plus years, Michael has consistently advocated for good communications practices amongst amateurs and always included a message of Peace and Friendship, considering it a great privilege to freely communicate with amateur stations in the global radio amateur community.
He is a member of the prestigious A1-Operators Club of the American Radio Relay League, a life-member of the ARRL, and is an ardent supporter of W1AW, the flagship station of the ARRL.
Now retired after 37years working as a Mechanical Designer/Design Engineer within the metro-Boston Research & Development Community, he continues his messages of friendship and peace between all nations via his amateur radio activities. He operates from his home town of Walpole, Massachusetts.

Chip Margelli, K7JA, has been licensed since 1963, and an Extra Class licensee since 1968. Chip and his wife Janet, KL7MF live in Garden Grove, California. Chip is a Life Member of ARRL, AMSAT, and Quarter Century Wireless Association, and he works for Ham Radio Outlet as an I.T. Specialist.
For over fifty years, Chip has been active in DXing and, especially, international radiosport competition and goodwill activities. Among his accomplishments are twelve First-Place finishes nationally in the ARRL November Sweepstakes, and a number of world-high or national wins in the CQ World-Wide DX Contest, ARRL DX Contest, and CQ WPX Contest. Chip's DXpedition activities include operations from St. Lucia, Dominica, Antigua, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Saipan, Micronesia, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Martinique, Cuba, and Barbados.
In 1984, Chip and Janet were invited by the Chinese Radio Sport Association to travel to Beijing for operation from BY1PK and help train the new Chinese operators during the early phases of the rebirth of Amateur Radio in China.
In 1989, Chip was honored by being selected to be the American representative in the first-ever Finnish-Soviet-American DXpedition to Malyj-Vysotskij Island as 4J1FS. The following year, Chip and his teammate Mike Wetzel, W9RE, won a Silver Medal at the World Radiosport Team Championship, held in conjunction with the Goodwill Games in Seattle.
And in the Fall of 1991, Chip was a member of the Instructor/Operator team in the IARU Albania Project (ZA1A), led by Martti Laine, OH2BH, which brought about the rebirth of Amateur Radio in Albania after many decades of radio silence.
In May of 2005, Chip and partner Ken Miller, K6CTW, made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC, utilizing “ancient” Morse Code to compete with (and defeat) the U.S. champion cell-phone text messenger in a message-completion speed contest. Chip is a 2018 inductee into the First Class CW Operators’ Club (FOC).
Articles by Chip have been published in QST, CQ VHF, Popular Communications, CQ, and FOCUS magazines, and in several books. Outside of Amateur Radio, Chip enjoys photography, astronomy, and is a marathon runner.
In May of 2008, Chip was inducted into CQ Magazine’s Amateur Radio Hall of Fame.

Born in 1954 in Buffalo, New York, I became interested in radio electronics by three uncles in my family who were amateur radio operators. I built my first transmitter in school in the 6th grade at age 12 and had so much fun that I went on to get my beginners radio novice license in 1967 working only CW with crystal controlled transmitters back then.

I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and obtained a degree in electrical engineering in 1972. After graduation I worked at Harris Corporation, RF Communications Division in Rochester, New York for nearly 40 years designing and building government and military radios. During those years I had the privilege to meet many soldiers and radios operators while helping to integrate and test radio installations.

I am married to my beautiful wife, Barbara N2PGX, and we have raised two children together, along with five grandchildren now. I continue to follow my radio interests today, using the many new equipments and modes now available to us. My passion is still for CW today, and I can be found on the HF bands daily. I was born as a third generation radio amateur from both sides of the family, amateur radio is in my DNA. By the time I obtained my license in 1977, I already knew how to measure, cut and build dipoles, how to solder, how to use a multitester and how to properly load and use tube operated equipment. My United States license is more recent, from 2014, when I took and passed the exams for Novice and General license in one single day.

I enjoy working DX but also enjoy a good rag chew with ham friends. I have been able to get DXCC and WAS. I operate locally in VHF/UHF and in recent years I've been busy working the satellites FM satellites and already qualify for VUCC. I've built several antennas for satellite work and others for local operation. In recent years, I was able to cooperate with the HU1DL dxpedition, which logged thousands of contacts in all bands and also cooperated with the HU4U dxpedition in 1999. I have participated in the launching of several high-altitude balloons in the part that relates to amateur radio and APRS. My last contest operation was operating YS1YS in the CQWW DX SSB in October 2020.

Another side of the hobby that I also enjoy is restoring and using old equipment, of which I have several units in operation after many years.

I've been active in emergency communications when required, even before I became a ham, believing that emergency work is an area where amateur radio can be of service to communities, especially when other communication sources stop working due to natural disasters or unforeseen events.

Since 2010, I have been a member of the Board of Directors of IARU Region 2, currently its Vicepresident and Area D Director. In that position, I've traveled to regional telecom meetings to represent and defend the interests of all radio amateurs. This also involved participating in the design and implementation of the Winlink emergency communications system that was installed in all Central American countries thanks to the sponsoring of the ITU as a pilot phase, intended to extend to all the Americas to provide emergency communications.

My plan is to continue operating, experimenting and discovering what else amateur radio has to offer, which is indeed a lot, and to continue promoting and supporting the work of radio amateurs in emergency situations in any way I can. A dream I have…to work EME.

Я просто скажу Вам правду: Очень часто в моих воспоминаниях, отрезках моей жизни, в памяти моей пробегают воспоминания о моей жизни и моих встречах, в моей жизни-интересных встреч было предостаточно и вот одна из них!
В 30 годах-когда наши герои «папанинцы» вернулись на Родную землю и во многих городах люди с энтузиазмом встречали своих героев с восторгом, прославляя их труднейший дрейф на полярной льдине. Мне тогда было 4 года, и я был среди встречающих! И.Д. Папанин поднял меня на руках и сказал всем: «Вот будущие открыватели и будущие путешественники». Это было на Украине в г. Дебальцево. Наверное, с этого все и началось!
Так же неожиданно у меня произошла незабываемая встреча с Эрнстом Теодоровичем Кренкелем! Мы внесли предложение в ЦК ВЛКСМ и ЦК ДОСААФ провести на базе Всесоюзного пионерского лагеря «АРТЕК» – «Первые детские радиоигры среди пионеров и школьников СССР». Это была очень интересная и серьёзная задумка, которая успешно в последствии осуществилась. Меня как организатора вызвали в Центральный Радиоклуб СССР на историческое место г. Москвы, Сретенка, д. 1. Никогда не забуду эти встречи! Я подробно доложил о планах проведения. Все единогласно одобрили и поддержали идею. Э.Т. Кренкель, будучи председателем Федерации Радиоспорта СССР, подробно поинтересовался моими техническими возможностями и остался доволен, после чего дал мне в помощь Крымский областной радиоклуб ДОСААФ. Ellen White learned Morse Code while in high school, during WW-II. In 1946 she was first licensed and has since been active on CW as W2RBU W6YYM KH6QI W1YYM and W1YL. For 25 years Ellen was on the staff of the American Radio Relay League. Her activity over the years has included DXCC WAZ. She was instrumental in establishing two active contest clubs, Murphy’s Marauders (which evolved into the Yankee Clipper Contest Club) and the Florida Contest Club. Her OM was W1CW of DXCC management fame (now SK) and son K4OJ, Florida Contest Club president (now SK). Ellen spent many years recording QST on tape for sightless hams, through the US Library of Congress talking book program. For several years she has been using the W7RN remote in Nevada to stay active on 40 meter CW as W1YL/7, usually on 40 meter CW around 1000Z.

Richard Zwirko    K1HTV

Richard Zwirko, first licensed as KN1HTV in 1958, has been continuously active in Amateur Radio using the callsign K1HTV for over 6 decades. He had a 48 year career in commercial and U.S government radio broadcasting. After 28 years of service at the Voice of America in Washington, DC, he retired in 2008 as senior Technical Support manager.
Rich, as a serious DXer, has worked DXCC on all 11 Amateur Radio bands between 160 and 6 Meters. He has 200 countries confirmed on 9 bands and over 300 countries confirmed on all 7 bands from 40 through 10 Meters. Rich is on the DXCC Honor Roll, only missing North Korea to achieve Honor Roll #1. All HF DXing has been done while running 100 Watts or less. He is an avid island chaser, working more than 1040 IOTAs.
His early interest in Sputnik and the first OSCAR satellites lead Rich to become Vice President of Operations and a member of the board of directors of AMSAT, the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation. He served between 1974 and 1984 during the launch of OSCARs 7 through 11 satellites.
Rich was heavily involved in the early days of Packet Radio, digi-peaters and packet bulletin boards in the Washington, DC area. He was instrumental in the establishment of the first NETROM node on the East Coast of the United States. He served as system operator for numerous NETROM packet radio nodes in the Washington, DC and Maryland area. Having high interest in VHF propagation, meteor scatter and VHf DXing, Rich became heavily involved in the use of WSJT software since its first release in 2001. In 2017, when the new FT8 mode was created, he started DXing using that mode, working over 240 DXCC countries with 75 Watts or less.
In 2018, with the explosion of popularity of this new FT8 digital mode, Rich was approached by some of his visually impaired Ham friends asking if there could be a way that would allow them to start using the FT8 mode. A number of requests were made to the WSJT-X Development Group reflector looking for a software developer who would work with Rich to produce such a program. The resulting software in conjunction with WSJT-X, gives blind Hams a way to easily make FT8 contacts. Recruiting a number of visually impaired Hams, Rich worked with them as beta testers of the software. The program called Quick Log, QLog for short, was developed by W2JDB, and is now in the early stages of being released. Because of these efforts, blind Radio Amateurs will be able to make worldwide contacts using the new FT8 and FT4 digital modes.

My Amateur Radio Adventure
As a young 10year boy in 1957, having a Short Wave Radio had always intrigued me. I would order the Allied Radio Catalog and would drool over the Band Scanner SWL Radio Kit that they advertised. The price of $25.00 was a fortune to me at that time, so I just dreamed that one day I would own a Short Wave Radio and discover the mysteries of short wave radio.
Being a typical kid in that era, I would often find the treasures that my urban neighbors would discard in front of the apartment buildings where I lived. In 1961, one such find was an old RCA Broadcast Band and Short Wave Receiver.
Upon dragging this dirty box back to our small apartment, I immediately plugged it into the AC socket and found that most of the tubes would light. It also had a strange green eye in the center of the radio! My mother would often repair our old Black and White TV by changing tubes, so I figured that if I replaced those tubes that didn’t light, maybe I could get this radio to work.
Living in the city provided us with a wealth of stores, one of which was the local TV Repair Shop where I secured the tubes I needed. Upon returning with the tubes I needed, and replacing the bad tubes, I was surprised when the radio came to life and the room was filled with static. Upon connecting a random piece of wire to the antenna lugs, I began hearing our old favorites “Oldies” stations on the AM Broadcast band. Later that evening as I moved the dial across the 7 Mhz band, the Green Eye closed I stumbled onto a station signing W3IOU who was talking with someone who I couldn’t hear. Could this be the ham radio stations that I had hear about who were on the short wave bands?
At school the next day, I looked for a younger kid whose house had a large antenna on the roof and I told him what I had discovered. His reply was ‘sure that’s ham radio and my mother and father are both hams. He invited me to his apartment a few blocks from where I lived and introduced me to his mother K2UXW Trudy Forbes (SK) and his father K2QMS Roy Forbes (SK) who would later become my Elmer’s.
On one side of their kitchen, in their small apartment, was a desk filled with all sorts of radios, dials and switches. Trudy and Roy explained to me what ham radio was all about and I was hooked. They encouraged me to study for my Novice License and gave me the study materials from that era, all from the ARRL. From that day forward, I was always asking Roy and Trudy questions and stopping by their QTH as I continued my studies.
In late June of 1962, I took the 5 WPM Code Test and the written exam at the Forbes QTH. Every day during the months of and in August of that year, I would race home from school to our mailbox to see if I got a letter from the FCC. Finally, that day arrived, and as I ripped open the envelope, WN2CZB was listed above my name and I had my Novice Ticket. At that time Novices were allowed 2 Meter AM privileges and Roy K2QMS lent me a Gonset 2 Meter AM Transceiver to make my first QSO’s.
I had saved enough money to buy a Heathkit Twoer (2 Meter AM Regenerative Transceiver) and had made a QSO to a station in Conn with a Ground plane Antenna. I had worked my first DX station and I was hooked on DX’ing from that day forward.
My Novice year passed in a flash and although I was able to save enough money for an HQ-110A, I never got enough money for a transmitter so I didn’t get the chance to operate on the Novice bands on CW.
After I passed my Technician Test, I was sure that I would be issued the call sign W2CZB since that call had not been issued. I was very surprised when my license arrived and I was issued the call sign WB2CZB. To all the old timers at time, my call sign labeled me as one of the new kids on the block.
I continued to operate on 2 meters until 1965 when I purchased a Ameco TX62 which gave me the 6 Meter Band. I erected a small 3 element Yagi on the roof of the apartment building where I lived and discovered the Magic Band. I was working out to the mid west on Sporadic E and even heard the Bahamas on CW! I was hooked on 6 meters, which is still my favorite band.
In the following years, I upgraded to General, began my carreer in the Police Department, the US Army Reserve and got married, so my operating time was limited. It was after our first son Scott was born and we moved to our own home in Hillsdale, NJ, that I began to actively chase DX on the HF bands.
Knowing that I wasn’t going to achieve a high country total with a General Ticket I began to study for my Advanced and finally my Extra Class license. At this time period, the exams were given at the FCC Office at Varrick Street New York City. I thought that the Advanced Class theory was more difficult than the Extra Class theory at the time. I’ll never forget the old school desks where you were required to copy by hand one full minute of copy at 20 WPM. I was concerned that the elderly looking examiner would be able to read my poor handwriting. But he did and I passed and walked out with my Extra Class License.
I was now able to get to operate in those first 25 Khz where all that DX was hiding from me. It was at my small lot in Hillsdale, NJ (50 feet by 104 feet) where I achieved 50 Mhz DXCC #48, 50 Mhz WAS # 676, 50 Mhz WAC, 50 Mhz WAZ # 9, and 155 countries confirmed on 50 Mhz , using a 5-element yagi at 55 feet and a KW.
I also achieved Honor Roll Status on HF using a 3 element tri-band yagi and wire antennas, along with 160 Meter DXCC # 131 with an Inverted L with radials running all around my small suburban lot.
My main operating interest is the 6 Meter Band I in 1988 I started to operate in wanted countries with my friend K4JM Holt. Our first expedition was to Saba Island from July 2 to July 12, 1988 as PJ0M. We studied sporadic E propagation to Europe and were able to contact stations in The United Kingdom and the USA. Our second expedition was to Barbados as 8P9JM from July 1 to July 8, 2000. The third was to St. Maarteen as PJ7M from July 2 to July 12, 2004. Finally our third expedition was to the Cayman Islands as ZF2ZD where I completed the first 6 Meter Earth-Moon-Earth Contact with W7GJ in Montana. This expedition was contacted on June 28th and July 6, 2008.
Our studies during these Four Expeditions proved that there was a Sporadic E Path between the Caribbean Islands and Europe and Africa. I now continue my studies from my home Amateur Radio Station as K2ZD in Jeffersonville, New York and specialize in Earth-Moon-Earth Communications on the 6 Meter Band. My present score is 207 Confirmed Countries on the 6 Meter Band.

Alan, W2MV received his first call sign WA2SLX in 1971. In 1977, he received W2MV and still has that call. His ham radio interests are mostly HF DXing, especially on CW. First licensed at age thirteen in 1958 as KN3EPQ. Also held calls WA2EBR in 1959, then WA4JFY in 1962. I have always done CW exclusively. As a teen I handled a great deal of traffic. I was awarded Official Relay Station, both Section Net Certificate and Regional Net Certificate, and have been awarded the famous Brass Pounder League Award for traffic handling. I was also involved in contesting, and was inducted into the famous Potomac Valley Radio Club. I became the 20 meter operator for then super station, W4KXV where I set the record for most countries worked on one band (132) in the ARRL DX contest.
I moved to New Mexico in 1969 where my call was WA5YTX. I won New Mexico section awards in both the ARRL Sweepstakes and the ARRL DX Contest on numerous occasions, partial list below, including top ten finish.
In 1980 I hosted one of the first five exchange teachers from the USSR for a semester. In 1991 I arranged for his return for a semester. In 1992 (and again in 1993), my family and I traveled to Ukraine and Russia. I taught English at University of Zaparoshye. Vlad Lateshenko arranged for me to have the first Ukrainian call sign assigned to an American, US0Q, which we used together in the WPX contest that year. I also visited in Nikopol where I operated as UR5E.
In June of 1992 I traveled to Russia, first to St. Petersburg. Victor Stragonov arranged for me to operate the club station, UZ1AWT as UA1A. the same station that had been used by the Harvard Amateur radio club previously as US1A, possibly the first individual American to operate from Russia. In 1996, following the WRTC in San Francisco, four members of the St. Petersburg Club came to my home to operate to complete the remarkable exchange.
In April of 1994 I became FOC, First Class Operator Club, member number 1,636. I was awarded the A-1 Operator Club 8 October 1996. In 1998 I became a member of the Old Old Timers Club, # 3,757.
In 2000 I began 19 years of organizing an entry in the US Field Day competition. I operated as W5YA, initially in the two-man team competition. The first year, we placed third overall.
In 2001 and 2003, we took first place in the category. In 2002 and 2004 we were second. In 2003, 2004, and 2005, we were second. We finished first in 2006, 2007, and 2008. We moved up to the 1A category, and won in 2009, 2010. Then we moved up to the 3A (three transmitter) category. We won every year from 2011 to 2018, in 2012 we set the all time record for the category. See the QRZ dot com website under club call, W5YA for more detail.
In the ARRL 160 meter contest in year 2000, and using the call sign W5YA, I worked all states in one night, QRP..
On February 12, 2007, I completed the first (and still only known) WAC (Worked All Continents) on 160 meters using QRP power level. See the ARRL Low Power Communication, by Rich Arland, 2007 edition, page 5-11.
In late summer of 2010 New Mexico established a Summits On the Air association, and I made my first mountain peak activation. By 2012 I had devised an activation set-up that weighed only about one kilogram and started seriously activating peaks. Mountain peaks in this area are mostly 3,000 meters and higher, most have no trails.
On 14 September, 2012 I became the first operator in the western hemisphere to achieve Mountain Goat status with over 100 mountain peak activations. Some peaks as high as 4,000 meters.
I pioneered ultra-light SOTA activation equipment. I was the first in north America to use an end fed halfwave wire, first to use #28 wire, first to use linked lengths to achieve multi-band, the first to experiment with tiny traps for multi-band. This approach has been copied by several commercial vendors, but none produce a version like my trap which weighs only 2.5 grams.
By 2015 my SOTA activation set-up weighs under one-half kilogram. My backpack is made of gauze, and it weighs only 100 grams. My 5 meter pole weighs only 175 grams.
Now I am approaching 700 SOTA peak activations. I have made about 15,000 QRP contacts from SOTA peaks. My best QRP DX from a SOTA peak, and using my end fed halfwave wire supported by a fishing pole was UR5FA/MM on 20 November, 2012. Oleg was also operating QRP. He was in grid square LG-42 at a distance of 10,859 miles!

Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO, was first licensed in 1970. He has been active in public service, amateur radio public relations, and radio club leadership. He is active on HF and VHF.
Josuweit served as the Public Service Columnist for CQ Amateur Radio from 2000 - 2009. Prior to that he wrote the public service column for CQ VHF. He has reported on amateur radio assistance during major disasters in North America, Europe, and China. He has had articles appear in Popular Communications, Conformity, 9-1-1, QST, as well as amateur radio magazines in other countries. He served on the ARRL Public Relations Committee for over 10 years. In 1996 he was awarded the ARRL McGan Silver Antenna Award for outstanding public relations while a ham from the Ukraine was brought to the United States for medical care. Bob was a member of ARRL's retired Public Service Advisory Committee and past chairman of the Emergency Communications Advisory Committee. He is a former ARRL Eastern Pennsylvania Section Emergency Coordinator, ARRL Public Information Officer and Assistant Section Manager in Eastern Pennsylvania.
1n 1980 he was awarded an Olympic Appreciation Medal (the same as a bronze medal, except that it wasn’t won in competition) for providing communications for the 1980 Winter Olympic Torch Relay from Olympia, Greece to Lake Placid, NY.
For the past ten years Bob has held various leadership positions, including president, in the Holmesburg Amateur Radio Club in Philadelphia, PA. As trustee for the club call, WM3PEN, he has lead the club effort as a bonus station during the 13 Colonies Special Event for over 10 years. He is a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Amateur Radio Club and a member of the Philadelphia Digital Radio Association.

In 2001 I was a member of the YK9A DXpedition to Syria. This same year I was awarded the first, and as of 2007, only Clinton B DeSoto Cup for the most documented Band/Entities (DXCC countries) on 160 through 6 meters.
I am a member of CQ Magazine's DX Hall of Fame and QSL manager for Jon Rudy who has operated from A2/ZS5UZ, C91CO, DU9/N0NM, 3DA0CA and 4W3ZZ.
My profession was Dentistry and I served on the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry for 57 years. I retired completely June 2016.
I am active on all bands, but can most often be found on 160, 60 and 6 meters. My most exciting QSO in 64 years of DX'ing was JT1CO worked in Dec. 2009 on 160 to complete WAZ on top band.

I received my MD diploma in 1977 from the University of Chile, became specialist in OB & Gyn in 1982, after that I obtained ad Master of Sciences degree in Community Health at the University of Memphis, TN, USA, and finally a MPA, Master´s Degree in Public Administration, at the same University in Memphis, TN, USA, focused on Health Services Administration.
The virus of Radio Amateurism was early inoculated in my veins. My father Guido, a swiss inmigrant to Chile, was CE4DWY.
I started as CE3FIX in 1982, and switched to full privileges Class (General) in 1989, this time as CE3PG, my actual callsign since then.
Since my beginnings, I have never stopped and I have been always active, including a three years stay in the USA, while studying, using the call W4/CE3PG.
I was early involved in Radio societies life, and become member of the Board of Directors of Radio Club de Chile in 1989, and later President of the Board until now.- I was also honored to be selected on two terms as a member of the Directory of IARU, Region 2, and Director in charge of area G, including Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile.
My interest in teaching and helping radio amateurs to learn and obtain their licenses began more than 20 years ago at Radio Club de Chile, and I have been acting as volunteer teacher during all those years, till now. Due to the COVID Pandemic we had to switch format and started classes via the Internet, which we do every Saturday morning via Zoom. (You may find the details at www.ce3aa.cl), in spanish, Im afraid.
In terms of activity I was early in my radio-life interested in Contests, Awards chasing and teaching. I was an active contester during several years, till now that I have mainly focused in teaching aspiring amateurs and practicing HF digital modes.
Finally, and as you probably know, Chile is very frequently affected by big earthquakes, so we, chilean amateurs, share a deep interest at cooperating with authorities in case of emergency, in fact, is a legal obligation as stated at the Rules and Regulations that regulate Amateur Radio in Chile. Because of that, we, at Radio Club de Chile, maintain a very active attitude, with daily exercises in several bands, national and internationally. It has been part of my job as President of the Board of Radio Club de Chile, to encourage amateurs in prepare them selves for the emergencies and cooperate with authorities in case of need, that, sadly enough, happens frequently.

Craig Hayhow    VK6JJJ

Craig Hayhow, VK6JJJ was born on Phillip Island in Victoria in 1964 and gained his limited amateur radio licence VK3YHC in 1983, later changing his call sign to VK6TVM in 1990 after moving to Western Australia. In the year 2000, after passing the 20 wpm CW exam, he upgraded to an unrestricted amateur radio licence VK6JJJ.
Craig enjoys working DX, digital modes, satellite, EME, meteor scatter, 6m and any challenging weak signal mode and enjoys operating Flex Radio Systems SDR transceivers.

I was licenced in 1984. I inherited my granddads call VK4SN (lic.1938) after his passing in 1991. Contesting is my passion, especially using CW and hold several records including a world record in the JIDX CW 28Mhz, and several VK records for various international contests. My website vk4sn dot com has many helpful articles and my station setup. I like to build my own projects and antennas and assist others where I can.
As Chairperson of the Wireless Institue's Radio committee one of my tasks is manager of the Remembrance Day and Trans-Tasman contests. To catch Australia up with the rest of the world, I created a website in 2017 for log submissions and log checking for the majority of VK contests with more being added at present. Results and statistics are included.
Many years ago, myself and 2 others started a small local radio club as we are a long way from the cities. Members enjoyed being invoived in setting up new repeaters, packet radio, running a BBS, contests, field day contests, and promotion of the hobby.
These days I'm busy running my own computer business but still find time to contest.

My start in radio was 1974 as a SWL using a National NC-57 receiver and Bendix MN-28CI my first amateur licensed was 1978 as WD0HSP. The first transceiver with the new call was a gift from my parents, Heath kit HW-8, the kit was put together at my parent’s house and the alignment was completed at my dad’s Avionics shop, Richards Geber AFB using their high end USAF test equipment. The antenna for the HW-8 was a simple dipole with using a J-38 Key. After a few QRP contacts was hooked with CW, The HW-8 was a blast!
Joined the US Navy in 2003 and the USN took me around the world meeting many Hams from all over the world. My current call is DU3LA and living in the Philippines as an Expat, I also hold 4D3X vanity call for contest.
Main interest these days is Radio Contesting CW/RTTY/SSB
Amateur Radio has been a lifelong hobby, have met many friends from all around the world. You can set at a table at Dayton the 160 contest dinner and everyone is equal having nice conversations. Maybe the rest of the world could learn from the brother/sisterhood of this great hobby.

I am originally from Naracoorte in the South East of South Australia but have lived in Vanuatu since 1979 and I am now a dual citizen of Australia and Vanuatu.
My first Amateur Radio license was in 1982 as YJ8RN through Vanuatu Amateur Radio Society, VARS, YJ8DX.
During 2 periods of work outside of Vanuatu I have also held the calls VK5PAT and 3D3SN.
Until 2012 all my operating in Vanuatu was from my home island of Efate. However since 2012 my work has taken me to other parts of Vanuatu, where I have operated when possible. I have activated IOTA OC110, Torres Islands on 6 occasions, also IOTA OC104 Banks Islands and OC 111 Shepherds Islands twice. The first time was while I was organizing the 2019 Dxpedition by RZ3FW and R4WAA. I was looking for QTH which would be suitable for them and checking the logistics for their DXpedition.
Later, when RZ3FW and R4WAA were in Vanuatu, I travelled with them and operated as a part of YJ0RRC in OC104 and YJ0FWA in OC111 and also on Efate, OC035.
Over the years my activity has varied but I do hold DXCC, WAS and am a 10:10 member.
As for the rest of the world, Covid 19 has reduced my ability to travel but I am planning to do some more internal travel during 2021 to activate the other IOTA locations in Vanuatu.

Chris Chapman    VK3QB

Chris Chapman, VK3QB was born in 1968 and gained his novice ham radio licence whilst still in high school in 1984. He upgraded to the unrestricted licence in 1986 whilst completing his higher school certificate. Morse-code has been his favourite mode, but he still enjoys a good ragchew on SSB. He dabbles in digital modes.
Chris has always enjoyed DX; both chasing it and being at the pointy end of pileups. From an early age, Chris was fascinated by weak DX signals and working stations from all corners of the earth. Finally, in 2009 he was able to achieve his dream of being a part of a DXpedition (VK9LA Lord Howe Island) which lead to many further DXpeditions and friendships with radio amateurs from around the world.
From 2009, Chris has activated Lord Howe Island (VK9LA & VK9LI), Vanuatu (YJ0QB & YJ0VK), Fiji (3D2/VK3QB) and Norfolk Island (VK9NT) with a total of 11 DXpeditions. Chris has lead 8 teams to these South Pacific Islands and always enjoys hearing an operator report that they’ve worked ATNO. He and his teams’ have always encouraged newcomers to join them and they’ve help others learn about DXpeditioning and how to “work the pile-ups”. He also enjoys visiting new places and experiencing the beauties of the natural world.
Chris holds DXCC and has also worked DXCC with 5w. He remains fascinated with HF, working new ones, weak signals and the surprises that often appear when spinning the dial and listening to the HF bands.

Luke Steele    VK3HJ

Luke Steele, VK3HJ was first licenced in 1981, but didn’t get seriously interested in the DX chase until he moved to a country property in 2007. Since then, he has achieved 9 Bands DXCC.
In 2009, he was invited on his first DXpedition to Lord Howe Island (VK9LA) and has since been an active DXpeditioner, to Vanuatu (YJ0VK 2010, 11, 12), Moreton Island Lighthouse (VK4ILH OC-137, 2012), Norfolk Island (2013, 14, 15, 16), Mellish Reef (VK9MT 2014), Christmas Island (VK9XI 2017), Cocos (Keeling) Islands (VK9CI 2017), and back to Lord Howe Island (VK9LI 2018).
Luke trained as a Radio Technician as an Army Apprentice starting in 1980, and subsequently served in various units of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals until 1990. He then worked in various civilian technical roles until 1999, and has been working with horses since as a hoof care professional.
Luke enjoys horse riding, cycling and travel along with his Amateur Radio hobby.

Craig Edwards    VK5CE

Craig Edwards was born in South Australia in 1972 and gain his Foundation Licence in 2008 and upgraded to the Standard in 2009 and then Advanced in 2012. He is married and is about to build a house where he and his wife will settle down and build a small antenna farm on 2.5 acres in the countryside of VK5. Craig is the Oceania Checkpoint for IOTA (https://iota-world.org/) and the webmaster for the Island Radio Expedition Foundation IREF (https://irefradio.com/).
Craig’s passion is activating islands around Australia for the Islands on the Air IOTA program. This involves mega pile-ups, incredible propagation, exhilarating adventures, breathtaking scenery, fatigue, sunburn, stings, bites and bloodshed. Unfortunately, Australia has a reputation for many creatures that can kill you. The more remote you go, the likelihood of encountering deadly creatures seems to increase. The spiders, sand flies, fire ants, Irukandji stingers, jellyfish and sharks are an ever-present threat. The two things that concern him the most are poisonous snakes and crocodiles, these reptiles seem to constantly be a risk factor in the remote one-man DXpeditions that he conducts.
Craig conducted his first IOTA DXpedition in 2010 and by the end of 2018 will have done 22 IOTA activations. Activations have been VK4LDX/P OC-172, OC-171 and OC-138 in 2010 and 2011. He then upgraded to the Advanced licence meaning 400W instead of 100W and in 2012 he did VK8BI OC-185 followed by 2013 with VK5CE/P OC-261 and VK5CE/4 OC-255. A highlight in 2014 was doing VK5CE/8 OC-173 and the last NEW IOTA left in VK, VK6ISL OC-294NEW. 2015 brought VK5CE/P OC-220 and he was a member of the S79C AF-119 NEW team. 2016 was a busy year with another NEW IOTA to ZL9A OC-286NEW and then VK5CE/6 OC-243 and VK5CE/P OC-228.
Last year was Craig’s biggest commitment to IOTA by activating VK5CE/3 OC-196, VK5CE/7 OC-233, VK5CE/P OC-228, VK5CE/8 OC-198 and VK9AR OC-216. In 2018 Craig will be conducting a VK6 IOTA tour as VK5CE/6 in June 2018 to OC-140, OC-170, OC-193 and OC-199. Digital Mode Club    FT8DMC

The FT8DMC was founded 12.july 2017 by Jo Engelbrecht, OE6VIE and Hannes Grünsteidl, OE1SGU , after recognising the fast growth and the need for a club for ft8. Our aim is to provide a worldwide meeting point and platform for users of ft8 and similar modes, especially for newcomers and less-experienced amateur radio operators an swls.
Within only 2 days, we already had more than 100 members and the new award programme has been launched shortly after. Now we count more than 16000 members from over 140 different countries. Everyone with an open mind and interest for ft8 is welcome to join our club. For us ft8 is a valuable addition to the other established modes in amateur radio. We also see ft8 as a chance for those challenged to cope with various difficulties modern society brings. Many of our members are all-rounders and ft8 is a new challenge for them.
All ft8dmc members are eligible to participate in various club’s activities and award programmes.
At the moment more than 200 different awards are available and so far more than 1 million awards have been issued.
All our team-members (representatives and award managers) are volunteers. We do not have any financial interest.
